Kenb Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Songs with a spoken part... What’s the best (or your favourite) ‘talking song’ N.S track?
Tobytyke Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Williams and Watson...".Too Late". Brilliant! 1
Bo Diddley Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Troy Keyes - If I had My Way ( My eyes have seen injustice.....love that bit!) 1
Popular Post John Reed Posted September 1, 2017 Popular Post Posted September 1, 2017 (edited) Shame its only NS tracks as the LP version of the Floaters - Float On would win hands down... Edited September 1, 2017 by John Reed 5 1
Steve S 60 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Plenty with spoken intros such as "Too Late" (already mentioned), "Get Out", "That Beatin' Rhythm", "Under Your Powerful Love" and "Home Is Where The Heart Is" to name a few. How about "Cool Off" where the lead talks all the way through, or "Colour Him Father"? 1
Peter99 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Janice - Skip Mahoney Sam Dees - Brother Man James Brown - Wake Up and Live Charles Johnson - Love So Good There are loads...............
Peter99 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Curtis Mayfield - No Thing On Me Aretha - Got To Find Me An Angel
Dobber Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 stepstones-lonely one, does a speaking bit in the middle,it ruins the song completely! its that bad i cant listen to it! 2
Davenpete Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 (edited) Arguable how 'Northern' it is but love Deep Sensation 'Somehow, Somewhere (there's a soul heaven)' - plus it uses a great sample (Southshore Connection 'We're On the Right Track') Dx Edited September 1, 2017 by DaveNPete 2

Douglaschip Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Breakaway - Steve Karman - Jimmy Radcliffe belting out the intro! I always love the spoken intro on Bobby Womack - How could you break my heart. 1
Theothertosspot Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 (edited) Truely awesome imo Edited September 1, 2017 by theothertosspot 3
Mgm 1251 Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 What about...Purple Mundi?,a spoken outro,instead of intro....actually ruins the song,for me.... 1 1
Tobytyke Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Bobby Womack spoke on many of his records . My choice would be "Harry Hippie" 1

Douglaschip Posted September 1, 2017 Posted September 1, 2017 Lee Austin the burner - I'm in love - people records. Great spoken long intro with loads of name dropping. Great version of womack tune!

I voted for but it's all the same at that stage. It is indeed not "clean". That is why I much prefer this version to the Tempos's cut actually. That "bad" BIG/DEEP VOICE negroid slam is just surprisingly fantastic the first time you hear it. Puts a grim smile on my face while laughing inside. Since that first time I can't stop listening to it ! Had to have a copy. And it's been 25 years now... Still works the same on me. OK, I love the "corky" bits and in the Fidels 'I'm giving you notice' on Doré the female break in the middle comes in after the guy's list of argument to her bullshit and she still comes in like a Princess; are you going believe what I tell ya or are you going to believe what you see ? And he goes in despair Aaaaaah... Unworthy of any more beans spilling: NOTICE baby ! I'm gonna find another girl. Almost but not quite macho. Tastik

"Let me be good to you" works very well for me, as does "See you when I git there". Archie Bell & the Drells, "Tighten up" (followed years later by Wally Jump Jr & the Criminal Element's version) Barry White spoke on loads, but if we're sticking strictly to NS, then "What am I gonna do with you" surely qualifies James Brown, "For goodness sakes, take a look at those cakes" Prince Philip Mitchell, "I'm so happy" Back to Lou:
