Just love his work!

Not a lot of people know this, but Derek was half of the Top Notes, who did the original version of "Twist And Shout" in 1961. The other half of the 'group' was none other than Howard Guyton!

Hi

These are the only two I have by Derek Martin

Tuba_2010a.jpgButtercup_45-009a.jpg

"Sly Girl" came out on a few different labels and Is an extremely good record to have in the collection,

at a fairly low cost too, definitely value for money.

Tuba 2010 - Sly Girl / Soul Power

Buttercup Records 45-009 - You Blew It Baby / Moving Hands Of Time

The flipside to "Breakaway", entitled "Take Me Like I Am", is probably my fave with him. Superb deep soul track. Apart from that, both sides of his "Daddy Rollin' Stone" 45 are hard to beat. But he released a whole stack of good records so let's just embrace them all.:lol:

A French friend of mine Frederic Adrian wrote a good article on the man based on a recent interview. It was published by In The Basement a few issues ago. Derek still performs in Europe working out of Switzerland where he lives. He was supposed to be performing in Paris soon.
