Pete S Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 A mate asked me to do a mix of the kind of stuff that was big when we first started on our Northern Soul journey – 1975, 1976, 1977 – well it turned out to be an epic journey and 1975 alone has 68 tracks! So I hope you enjoy the music and the anecdotes. As I do 1976 and 1977 there will be less talking and more music but I felt I needed to set the scene and explain what things were like back then. The records are all from my own collection so if I haven’t got it, then it’s not on the list. And it’s not a ‘biggest sounds of 1975’ kind of thing, it’s a true reflection of the records we listened and danced to. Running time 3 hours 17 minutes all done on the fly (and there is a small amount of swearing). Rufus Lumley – I’m Standing Saxie Russell – Psychedelic Soul Earl Wright & His Orchestra – Thumb A Ride The Fidels – Try A Little Harder E. Rodney Jones – R & B Time Luther Ingram Orchestra – Exus Trek The Righteous Brothers Band – Rat Race The Velours – I’m Gonna Change Chubby Checker – You Just Don’t Know Jerry Williams – If You Ask Me Jeanette White – Music Williams & Watson – Too Late Julian Covey – A Little Bit Hurt The Tomangoes – I Really Love You The Servicemen – I Need A Helping Hand The Mirwood Strings – The Temptations Walk The Furys Band – I’m Satisfied With You Gloria Jones – Tainted Love Paul Anka – I Can’t Help Loving You Sam & Kitty – I’ve Got Something Good The Invitations – Skiing In The Snow Wombat – I’m Gettin’ On Life Dana Valery – You Don’t Know Where Your Interest Lies Little Richie – Just Another Heartache Fred Smith Orchestra – Don’t Pretend The Gypsies – It’s A Woman’s World Jimmy Mack – My World Is On Fire Four Perfections – I’m Not Strong Enough Doni Burdick – Bari Track Eddie Parker – Love You Baby Bob Wilson Sounds (Checkerboard Squares) – Strings A Gogo Bunny Sigler – Girl Don’t Make Me Wait Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes – Get Out (And Let Me Cry) Delrays Incorporated – Destination Unknown Tamiko Jones – I’m Spellbound Beverly Ann – You’ve Got Your Mind On Other Things The Coasters – Crazy Baby Tony & Tyrone – Please Operator Jeanette Williams – All Of A Sudden James Lewis & The Case Of Tyme – Manifesto Sam Ward – Sister Lee Jenny & The Jewels – Love Is Like An Itching In My Heart The Cooperettes – Shing A Ling Stanley Mitchell – Get It Baby Don Thomas – Come On Train Mike Post Coalition – Afternoon Of The Rhino The Epitome Of Sound – You Don’t Love Me The Detroit Shakers (Outsiders) – Help Me Find My Way (Lonely Man) The Capreez – How To Make A Sad Man Glad Lou Pride – I’m Com’un Home In The Morn’un Reggie Garner – Hot Line Skull Snaps – I’m Your Pimp The World Column – So Is The Sun Frankie (Love Man) Crocker – Ton Of Dynamite Dena Barnes – If You Ever Walk Out Of My Life Larry Santos – You Got Me Where You Want Me The Drifters – You Gotta Pay Your Dues Sam Ambrose & Friend – They’ll Be Coming The Detroit Sound – Jumping At The Gogo Micky Moonshine – Name It You Got It Edwin Starr – Time Rodger Collins – You Sexy Sugar Plum Eloise Laws – Love Factory Reparata & The Delrons – Panic High Voltage – Country Road 8th Avenue Band – The Whole Thing Pointer Sisters – Send Him Back Little Anthony & The Imperials – Better Use Your Head https://www.mixcloud.com/mayfairmenthol/the-northern-soul-years-1975/ 2 1
Frankie Crocker Posted July 27, 2017 Posted July 27, 2017 A brilliant summary Pete reflecting how it was at the time. I can think of a few others you could add, but if you haven't got them, you haven't got them.

I did cut some from this episode as it was getting so long, things like The Malibus, Tobi Legend,Ikettes, Eula Cooper, Otis Smith, Benny Curtis, Ann Perry and about 10 more

And you could probably throw in a couple of dozen Northern classics before pondering over the Mecca biggies at the time.
