Guest vinylvixen Posted November 15, 2006 Posted November 15, 2006 Brett Franklin tells me he claps along to nothing else.... Oooh, he told me it was 'Interplay'... Jo.
Guest vinylvixen Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Interplay - d&r - 11528 refosoul Don't you just love it when someone backs up fact with evidence - lots of clapping going on there Simon, you're a star.... Jo
Guest ruffsounds Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Has anyone mentioned Frankie Valli --I'm Gonna Change and does anyone have a clip from Wigan to post. cheers Ruffsounds
Guest in town Mikey Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Interplay - d&r - 11528 refosoul The first time I ventured North of Birmingham, to Hinckley (OK may not be geographically North but it is further away from Gloucester), one of my abiding memories was the clapping to interplay was different to our local do's. We'd clap twice in parts where this new crowd clapped once. I love the clapping and am sure it is one of the main reasons I initially fell in love with Northern Soul, but have always preferred the tunes where there is a one off almighty great clap, each break, a la Duke Browner, than the rabble type clapping to Right Track. The only time I like the rhythmic clapping is where a verse or chorus changes the beat of a record, like Cecil Washington - I dont like to lose
Guest Jimmy Scriv Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 As its bad enough to get on the floor at my age now I prefer records with a short clap break. So my vote goes to Art Freeman 'Slipping Around'. Back to youth club days I remember when Funky Street Arthur Conley used to be played and hands were red raw afterwards.

Winnie :-) Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Tony Galla, in love also ripe for a clap fest
Guest Bogue Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 (edited) This Beautiful Day - soloman king - wigan casino 5th oldies aniversary, feb 81 11600 refosoul Another good old clapper from the same tape. Will get it finished one day Mark, promise. I'm surprised at the sound, not brilliant, but not too bad considering I recorded it on an old philips mono tape recorder with no dedicated microphone. This Magix cleaning software helps though. P.s. Anyone on here ever win one of those prize draws ? Edited November 16, 2006 by Bogue

Rugby Soul Club Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Lets face it, soulies could clap to the weather forecast given enough encouragement. Oh, I thought you were supposed to, I have for years..... .....
Winnie :-) Posted November 16, 2006 Posted November 16, 2006 Oh, I thought you were supposed to, I have for years..... ..... ========== Thought the clapping to the weather forecast scene was over when Russell Grant finished presenting, but those Kentucky fried Clapping adds bought a lot of us out of the woodwork, although I still clap in the old style and get criticised by the 'new breed', who say its old hat and naff, and tapping your toes or humming is the new clapping

Guest in town Mikey Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Oh, I thought you were supposed to, I have for years..... ..... Not down in South Wales we dont
Simsy Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Not down in South Wales we dont That reminds me. If it were clapping that was in the grooves, rather than out on the floor, it'd have to be Tommy Frontera. Clapping from start to finish.
Guest Ollie Lailey Posted November 17, 2006 Posted November 17, 2006 Been mentioned loads, but Bernie Williams - Ever agin the first time i went to prestatyn and walked in to the main ballroom mid dance contest - f*** me that was amazing! I think that was the nail in the coffin for a northen soul obsession! Also at mod doo's when Of Hopes Dreams And Tombstones was played "123!" Though that was more of a chant than a clap............. i'll get my coat.......

Guest chipsman Posted November 19, 2006 Posted November 19, 2006 After reading about Clapping and the sense that some no longer do clap i thought it would be a good idea to try and bring those memories back to you all, So come on then can you remember the songs you used to clap to and what tunes you still clap too today. list as many as you want and even put sound bites up so we can all have a clap now. if you cant be bothered go read something else more interesting instead Bearsy Gotta include many of those instr. from back in the day. 6x6 - Rat race - Afternoon of the rhino - Thumb a ride etc.
