Rick Scott Posted July 2, 2017 Posted July 2, 2017 Apologies if this discussed before, I have a white USA Demo (Small Font) Also An Issue with Small Font and an Issue with Large Font. (Both USA) May well be just different pressing plants (as is the usual) or did one come out before the other, lets say , one run sells out and following run a font size change. Anyone Know for sure or any thoughts please ? Thanks Rick.

Only that I believe since not such a "hot hit" to rerun presses to supply demand. Never seen a white demo of that one though... Can we see ? 1
Rick Scott Posted July 6, 2017 Author Posted July 6, 2017 Thanks for reply, i don't know how to put a picture up but my Gordy demo is a double A side, TIME on both sides, If you go to Discogs and put in a search for Time Edwin Starr it pulls up all versions including the white demo, Rick

That's what I thought.
45cellar Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Yes they are double A Sided DEMOs and from different pressing plants. WEST COAST : MONARCH Delta # 79353 places it around the end of December 1969 / January 1970 ( X4KM -5515-1 )
Chalky Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Motown and its labels has to be one of the hardest labels to complete if you are a completist. I read of one release with 7 takes, identifiable by the matrix, with presses at various plants with differring labels, font, design etc.
45cellar Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 Yes and just when they started to become double A Sided DEMOs there is the odd exception. However, the Red Vinyl copy was Double A Sided for this G-7090 release.
Rick Scott Posted July 7, 2017 Author Posted July 7, 2017 So............my two issues of TIME/RUNNING BACK AND FORTH (GORDY) just a case of different pressing plants for large font and small font. OR.....Was one issued before the other as noticed a small difference in prices depending on which is issue up for sale, ended up with 2 issues over the years as thought i had lost or sold one but as is the case the other turned up so keeping one the other going in a sales box, so which one should i keep, must say i have a soft spot for the Large Font one as it looks older? ONLY thing throws me is the double sided Demo of Time is small font which would suggest First Issue Because it is a Demo OR are we back to pressing plant issue as have to say not seen that demo with a large font, Isn't Record collecting Fun, Or is it ?
45cellar Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 I would say that the DEMOs were all produced around the same time for each release number. I always expect to find the following three presses MR stamp - MONARCH from the west coast. "Arp" - American Record Pressing Co. - Michigan "Nashville Matrix" Midwest press However, others can be found from pressing plants such as R stamped - RCA Records Pressing Plant, Rockaway ZTSC - COLUMBIA Records Chichago As far as the Stock Copies are concerned. The hits kept on catalogue normally with the same release number, could have later label designs etc when pressed over time.

Thanks Roger for the useful extra info, very interesting, bit of a mine field this record collecting, Thanks, Rick
45cellar Posted July 7, 2017 Posted July 7, 2017 No problem Rick. It is a mine field and so hard to generalise. It is quite difficult without seeing a scan or deadwax detail from your copies Does the smaller font copy have the "Arp" stamp in the deadwax. I would guess that The large font TIME / Running back and forth will be STYRENE with Delta # 79353 on the TIME side in the deadwax.
