Guest Posted November 30, 2004 Posted November 30, 2004 ooh seen some great clapping past few weeks, one guy at a do wasa throwing them in when he felt like it and even clapped some tunes out (the wrong ones of course) made for great viewing for half an hour or so. Used to enjoy watching people watch winston clap to judge when the next one was coming up, so winny used to pretend to go into a clap, raise his hands, the watchers quickly clapped then winny would put his hands back down again soooooooooo funny

Guest in town Mikey Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 (edited) Bernie Williams "Ever again" Bobby Hutton "Lend a hand" Ramsey Lewis "Wade in the water" link Ben Zine - Village Of Tears. AND Bernie Williams. That was the first track I thought of. At Yate not only did you get the three claps at the appropriate spot in the record, you would then imediately get an 'echo' three claps, and then everyone would clap once together. When you are 15, at your first allnighter, and watching/listening to all this, its impossible not to be sucked in. It is also a much under-rated dance move. As we are all getting less agile and the backdrops and swallow dives are becomming less and less (ahem) graceful, a good clap is a wonderful thing to do, or watch. Guest in town Mikey Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Just noticed Billy Butler - Right Track, hasnt been mentioned. Its law, that you arent allowed to purchase a vintage Lambretta or Vespa, until you have learnt to clap along to that one, without stoping dancing.
TheBigO Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 The art of the handclap is sadly declining and there are only a few of us left that carry it on. Sadly Panch from Bedford loves to clap out of time, as Winston will testify, to put everyone off so a slap around the head if he does it when you are in the venue! I encourage clapping at every venue I attend, and at the Plinston it's a joy to behold a full house clapping like thunder to records. By the way Kolla if you cant get the beat right in Tobi Legends anthem then there is no hope for you babe
wendy Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 what about busta rhymes - make it clap can someone show me the finer points of this hand clapping business? sounds like fun!

Coming to terms with Mike's gadgetry now Anyway I was just gonna say, I agree with you, lost art, or we've all got so old our co-ordination has gone Winnie:-)
Winnie :-) Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Rita DeCosta "Dont bring me down" =========== currently ....If I could only be sure...everybody seems to know the claps to that. right track, ever again, most seem to catch on to multiple claps. By the way Kolla if you cant get the beat right in Tobi Legends anthem then there is no hope for you babe =============== Panch isn't from Bedford. he doesn't actually clap out of time, if you notice he'll do 2 quick claps to peoples one (those that do still clap) I'm sure it's a protest thing on his part. Totally agree it's a joy to behold a full house clapping in unison, but these days, its almost unheard (scuse the pun) of Win:-)

Guest alison Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 Don't like to clap, too conformist, too much like sheep mentality..... Come on then slag me off link I like to clap in the car whilst singing along to music. Can be dangerous when driving, particularly if combined with a back drop. Just putting a set together for one of the audio sites - may make the theme "clapping songs" this week based on the suggestions from the good people on this forum. On the basis that you don't like to clap John, I'll pop Baa Baa Black Sheep in for you
TheBigO Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 OOOOH! You Good Winnie I was going to put similar damm you I point out that at least you and I still favor the Wigan Clap, namely large arm movement and big hits :graywanker: (couldn't find the hand clapping smiley)

You Good Winnie I was going to put similar damm you I point out that at least you and I still favor the Wigan Clap, namely large arm movement and big hits :graywanker: (couldn't find the hand clapping smiley) ================ We have to be careful how we describe the movements, or it could be misconstrued that we are: a) reincarnated albatross Attempting the 'crane' from the Karate Kid When in fact we are really going for the 'twin twats' look Winnie :-)
Markw Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 The Dome at its peak was good for clappers - Sunshine Girl developed a life of its own there. Also, I have a superb tape (copied from the late Paul Fisher) of a storming Butch set at the 100 Club about 5 years ago - superb hand clapping!! Particularly on his Jerry Williams c/u, Temptones c/u and his ender, Eddy Hughes "Soul Searcher" (then c/u as George Lemons). Not such a dead art in the South.
Guest in town Mikey Posted December 1, 2004 Posted December 1, 2004 no seriously - can someone please explain this hand clap thing. did yous clap to ALL the songs? did yous jump n spin n clap at the same time??? link Hi Wendy. There are two types of clapping along. Both require Winston's large arm movements and thunderous bringing together of hands. Take 'Crying Over you - Duke Browner'. The opening bars are dramatic and there is a pause. This is where dancers clap. (bear with me 'duh duh, duh duh, CLAP') Or 'Epitome of sound - You dont love me' when there are three rapid beats, dancers clap to each beat. Sometimes the way is to clap on a beat, on other's its the missed beat. I think thats the one Kolla is refering to in 'Time will pass you by'. I have probably got that wrong and the old lads like Winston will take me to task.
