Balancing the in’s with an out…..

Jimmy Delphs – Dancing a hole in the world / Instrumental – Carla 1904 M- OFFERS

Where would we be without Ollie McLaughlin’s telling contribution to the Detroit 60’s Soul scene, which was ultimately made possible through the trio of labels named after his daughters, Carla, Karen and Moira?  Just one more night of marital bliss for Ollie and Gloria (may have joined the fold!  One thing’s for sure, we probably wouldn’t have been able to marvel at the astounding legacy left by Ollie if it wasn’t for his musical vision and desire to compete with a host of other famous or emerging Detroit labels.

To be able to take in and comprehend the vast amount of talent amassed by Ollie and their eventual output, it would be simpler to use a “Stars Wars” like rolling movie credit to capture the artists, groups, writers and producers associated with these fabulous label recordings.  Artists like; Deon Jackson, Barbara Lewis, Kelly Michaels, Sharon McMahan, Betty LaVette and Belita Woods.  Groups, whether they be one or multiple hit wonders, like; the Compacts, Four Pro’s, Ad-Libs, Capitols, Soul Twins and Firestones.  Nothing would be achievable without the guys behind the scene, these often invisible geniuses turn out to be a who’s who of crafting Soul, Riley Hampton, Richard Wylie, Tony Hestor, Mike Terry, Sonny Sanders, Jimmy "Soul" Clark, Earl Van Dyke and The Funk Brothers.

At the pinnacle of collecting the rarest of Soul from this rich group of labels sits the likes of the Gambrells, Matt Lucas, the Volumes (so in-demand) and of course Jimmy Delphs.  “Dancing a hole in the world” was thought for many years to be a white promo only release, until inevitably evidence of stock copies surfaced in various places around the world and probably only reconciled by the advent of the internet and social media!

Never the less this record in this format is considered, justifiably to be the hardest to acquire from Ollie’s stock, which is made even more enticing by the shape it’s in, barring a biro X and slight rub on the label.  For such steady rarity I’d still go as far using JM’s strap line CONDITION, CONDITION, CONDITION.

Minimum offer is £2000 running just over 48 hours until 9pm on Wednesday 28 June, unless I get an offer I can’t refuse in between.  PayPal by friends or add 4%, alternatively bank transfer.
