Soul-slider Posted February 1, 2018 Author Posted February 1, 2018 (edited) A Northern stomper by a NFL footballer who was dating someone who also had a Northern stomper, Joey Heatherton! (B side is a version of Kenny Chandler's 'Beyond Love'). Edited February 1, 2018 by Soul-Slider 1
George G Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 Rentzel and Joey were married. The song title is almost funny considering he exposed himself to a couple young girls, costing him his marriage but not his football career (although he was traded to another team) 2
George G Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 The Chris Montez version of "Call Me" was a huge hit in the US, 1966. I assume that Eddie Bishop was done in response. 2
Guest Shufflin Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 sorry if posted already can't keep up but this is a good'un, not rare but doesn't need to be to fill a floor (on London/Decca)
Guest Shufflin Posted February 2, 2018 Posted February 2, 2018 can't track a copy of this anywhere, even the cd is rare
clevesoulie Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 It shouldn't come as a surprise that Pet Clark did a version of Call Me....after all, it was written by her manager, Tony Hatch. Best, Mark
clevesoulie Posted February 3, 2018 Posted February 3, 2018 Gail Wynters a/k/a Bunny Shivel. Best, Mark 1

Mike Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 (edited) ok this topic has been going a few months now am thinking its' now at the point where it may be better for both readers and posters if we move onto more specific music topic there's so many genes being posted here that it is getting a bit clumsy plus repeats seem to be on the increase Rather than such a large catch all designation it may work better if use topics that narrow things down a touch eg the use of the tems popcorn, garage, uk pop, garage etc etc rather than the wide 'blue eyed' category So passing on with the above in mind that I am looking at closing this topic come monday Edited February 4, 2018 by mike improve wording 1
Guest Spain pete Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Pure bubblegum pop , the Archie's , SUGAR SUGAR, one that l have always liked.👍🎶
Guest Josep Manuel Concernau Robles Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Some pop and "soft - rock" tunes I found "soulful" - Doobie Brothers - "What a Fool Believe" - Bobby Caldwell - "What You Wan't Do For Love" - Michel McDonald - "Sweet Freedom" - Kenny Loggins - "This Is It" - Steve Winwood - "Night Train" - F. R. David - "Words" - Toto - "Africa" - Chicago - "If You Leave Me Now"
Tomangoes Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 Toto Africa, Chicago If you leave me now? ..................I also think the thread has lost its way, and agree its run its course. One man's soul etc Ed 1
Guest Spain pete Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 BROAD CHURCH INDEED, BUT this is now ridiculous . even the good times are bad , the tremeloes , Not a bad little tune 👅🎶
Soul-slider Posted February 4, 2018 Author Posted February 4, 2018 Yes I agree Mike, as tomangoes said, it's run it's course. Been good though
Guest Shufflin Posted February 4, 2018 Posted February 4, 2018 a thread on the Belgian Popcorn scene would be interesting, it has crossovers to Northern but also quite different stuff anyway agree with consensus
Guest Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 Also agree with Mike on this one. Just to many post to read them all so repeats are getting more and more.
Mickey Finn Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 In fairness to Josep, there's also potential for a thread on "West coast"/"Yacht rock"/AOR that crosses over into the various soul scenes. But this thread's original focus on blue-eyed *northern* soul would seem to have run its course. For anyone interested, Richard Searling played an hour of the northern stuff yesterday: 1

Tomangoes Posted February 5, 2018 Posted February 5, 2018 If anything, it showed the definition of (Northern) Soul, is as unpredictable as ever... Ed 1
