Patto
Hi Fred Where was the venue mate and what do you mean by No Northern Link to comment Social source share
Fred Benson
It was at Cantley Lodge, Doncaster a venue run by Snowy ( Bill Snow)... The 'No Northern' was a tongue in cheek comment as 'Northern Soul' as a genre, did not exist at that time! Link to comment Social source share
Patto
Thanks Fred Im a Donny lad so was interested to know where venue was.See your point now about the pre Northern Soul tag era . Fred Benson
Thanks for that....sometimes DJ's get 'caught up' in the 'same old same old' playlists trying to please a dancefloor with so called classics and as it was the first time I had DJ'd in Donny since the early 70's, wanted to play my old Attic tunes. I only ever play originals and try to play 'something different'. Doubt I'll play there again, but enjoyed it, a nice venue. 1 Link to comment Social source share
Tomangoes
Apart from your play list, what were the other big tunes at the attic? Did any USA live acts ever play there? It was all Northern Soul at the Baileys all nighters in the 70s.. Top nightclub over the years. Ed Link to comment Social source share
Fred Benson
Yes, quite a few live acts, Billy Stewart was my favourite. Went once to the 'night club' that evolved after The Attic, 70's disco if I remember.... Link to comment Social source share
Tony A
Edy, were you there that night Baileys got shut down about 2.30 in morning, all kicked out onto the streets ? Remember Necko, Pearsy, Crabby, Willie and myself been there, I think you was, but memory fading now. Link to comment Social source share
Tomangoes
First went to the YMCA? Got turned away, and ended up on Donny station next to Necko in the waiting room. Happy days! Ed 1 Link to comment Social source share
