Liamgp Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 OK, we all know about the famous three played at the end of the Wigan nighters. But was it always the same three records played as 'enders'? Surely they must have tried a few other tracks and a guy I know claims they played Fats Domino 'It Keeps Raining' sometimes, although as he freely admits he wasn't sure if it was the main room or Mr M's.
Winsford Soul Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 From memory and 1975 when I 1st went to the Casino it was the 3 before eight then in about 1977 they started playing Gerri Grainger. I go to pieces to make it 4 before eight . Don't remember any other records gate crashing the party. Steve 1
Thinksmart Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Fats Domino goes back to The Wheel, possibly before and so would have been Mr M's rather than main room. It's sound was also fairly anachronistic in Northern Soul as a main play by the mid-1970s with its mid-tempo New Orleans style.
Steve S 60 Posted April 11, 2017 Posted April 11, 2017 Definitely heard Fats Domino played in the main room circa '79, but between 5 and 6am. I was looking through some record boxes at the time. Funny what you remember.

Steve That's how I remember it Ste, although there was a spell were Bobby Paris - I Walked Away seemed to be getting played near the end as well...... although this may just have been coincidence and my pickled memory. 1
Paul R Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 I remember it keeps raining being played by Dave Evison in the main room around 75. Totally cleared the floor. I was surprised when I heard that it had gone quite big a few years later.
Steve Foran Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 Regarding Fats Domino I clearly remember that Richard did the final set BUT on a Fridays Oldies Nighter. He played Fats Domino It keeps raining as the last tune. Not sure if Richard finished every Oldies night BUT I can say he definitely did play it when he did the last spot. He also played Soul Source, Evie Sands, If that's what you wanted, Nolan Chance on Bunky, Job Opening and The Belles on NZ Action. All at Oldies nights. 1
Chatty Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 After the "last" Wigan nighter in September 81 they played about sixteen hours of enders before December 81 2
Winsford Soul Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 The last ever nighter in December 81 the 4 before 8 lasted for about a hour. None of us wanted to leave, think it must have been getting on for 9 ish when we all eventually left. Written in red lipstick on a mirror on the pillar to the right of the stage was the epitaph of the Casino. Wigan Casino no more come downs. It was a privilege to be there and part of it for the 7 greatest years of my life. Steve 3
Wiganer1 Posted April 12, 2017 Posted April 12, 2017 it keeps raining massive oldie just as wigan was closing .....the last night was the 3rd of my three visits ,,,wouldn't change them for the world
