Tomangoes Posted March 20, 2017 Posted March 20, 2017 What a talented guy Gino Washington is? We know Gino even had his own tv show. What does Tomangoes actually mean? Obviously he made a few tunes, and here are some great ones.
Robbk Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 My favourite by Gino is his first release: "I'm A Coward", then 2nd is "Come Monkey With Me", 3rd is "Romeo". But, really, I like almost everything he recorded.
Pete S Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 LIke My Baby instrumental Like My Baby Rat Race Around The Town
Mick Boyle Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 As above Like my baby + (the unisued) Ohh baby
David Meikle Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 (edited) Puppet On A String is class. Gino also owned a wig store off Grand River Avenue. I sat next to him at a free Little Richard concert 12 years ago. Only in Detroit! [I'm guessing Tomangoes has something to do with the fruit - African connections?] Edited March 21, 2017 by David Meikle
Corbett80 Posted March 21, 2017 Posted March 21, 2017 (edited) Agree with Mick B - Like my baby + (the unisued) Ohh baby. Plus 'I'll Be Around'. Also like 'Do You Have That Soul'...and 'I Lost You Girl' (which is him apparently?) Edited March 21, 2017 by corbett80

[I'm guessing Tomangoes has something to do with the fruit - African connections?] Hi David, That's very interesting that Gino owned a wig store. With him having a release on Dewtroit's W.I.G. Records ("Romeo"), I have to think that Wig was his label, or, that he was, at least, a part owner.

Wonder how many of these acetates he had made as he gave one to Rob Thomas - white label on it was written "Oh Baby - To Rob love Gino"
Guest db121 Posted March 22, 2017 Posted March 22, 2017 Rat Race and whirlpool, not too keen on his others. Whirlpool is just right for some of the upfront venues now.
