Enricoacm1899 Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 (edited) Just thinkin' 'bout the man when I saw the earlier version of "Shake off that dream" in a dealer's list today. Stated that Eddie and Shorty are the same person as I red in an old post, I was wonderin' if it's true (as was stated in the aforementioned post) if Eddie (or Shorty? ) was sometime usin' his brother's name to give a boost to his singin' career? Anymore info regardin' the relations with the two borthers? Another thing I would like to know it's the relation between the issues of the later mix (the funkiest one), that came out on Garpax and Solid Gold (the latter is the one I own). Regional version? One is licensed from the other? Edited February 25, 2017 by EnricoACM1899
Tlscapital Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 4 issues for this. The first one from 1973 with the "rawer" mix on local Helpp and then for national distribution on Seventy 7 and in 1977 with the funky slapping bass both on Solid Gold (own owned label I understand) and then on Gar-Pax for national distribution. Name changes of the guy from Shorty, Eddie BILLIPS, BILLUPS or Eddie OWENS... 2
Sean Hampsey Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 Was a huge play for me back in the late 70's, early 80's and still one of my all time favourite records. I finally got to meet the man and see him perform, many years later. You may find this tread from 2006 is of interest. Cheers, Sean

Cunnie Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 This thread might help. Seems it got 2 x 12" releases.

Sean Hampsey Posted February 25, 2017 Posted February 25, 2017 He told me that he so believed in the song that he kept pushing it, on different labels, for many years! Although I was playing it soon after it's 77 release, in the 70's we were unaware of the Hellpp release until 10+ years after. It was a true Holy Grail for ages, but the internet has spawned a few copies in recent times (though still a pretty rare record). Sean 1
Enricoacm1899 Posted February 25, 2017 Author Posted February 25, 2017 (edited) Great tune in both versions. I think I prefer the later and funkier one, but also the crossover version is awesome (by the way, what's your opinion?). Didn't know 'bout the 12". Edited February 25, 2017 by EnricoACM1899
