Lambrettagp200 Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Just wondering if anyone has had any success cleaning acetates? I've been told it's a no-go area, but anybody tried?
Davenpete Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Don't use lighter fluid (though it's great on ordinary vinyl) Dx 1
Tricky Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Yes i stupidly without thinking cleaned one with Isopropanol. It still played but looked hideous. Turned it a matt streaky grey. Tricky 1
Amsterdam Russ Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 A damp cloth (as lint free as possible) can help. 1
Mal C Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Luke warm water, cloth, tad bit of soap... and go easy.... good luck!! M 1
Reforee Posted December 22, 2016 Posted December 22, 2016 Cleaned one on a record cleaning machine using soap based cleaning fluid and with its vacuum pickup clean it did pretty good. Tried alcohol, based one on a completely knackered one and it went all hazel and distorted the sound even further. soap based and dried doesn't seem to effect the quality except for the better by the dirt removal IMHO. Happy Christmas All. Dave H 1
Northern Soul Uk Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 yes, tried to clean an original 7" acetate of Jocelyn Brown - Somebody else's guy with Isopropyl. Don't do it! :-( 1
Guest Posted February 27, 2017 Posted February 27, 2017 Lint free soft cotton cloth (a square cut from a clean T shirt).Wet it (with distilled water if possible) wring the water out and give it a firm wipe going along the grooves not across. Sometimes a drop of Fairy liquid in the water will shift stubborn shit. Don't be afraid to rinse under the cold tap either, that won't hurt. Whatever you do, don't use solvents as they will melt the lacquer and ruin the disc. try to keep labels dry as well. Hope this helps.
