Just received cdr of "Girl Don't Make Me Wait" - Darryl Hall.

Great version from the same production team behind the Bunny Sigler version but with better (Van McCoy style) strings...it's amazing that quality material like this has been stuck in the vaults since the 60's.

...'s all very well you telling us about it, mate - how about a bit of a sonic share out, even a minute-long mp3 would be nice yes.gif

Best,

Hi Tony ,

I will find out if "my supplier" will allow that.(!)

Can't at the moment. anyway..I left the CDR in Midlands before coming down to London this morning and am here for rest of the week.

Truly awful vocals, its no real surprise to me that this has been stuck in the vaults since the 60's.

The real question for me is why anybody would choose to listen to it now?

wedding reception-tastic (awful).

Bunny's version is as good as it gets. Anyone else is always going to have too much to live up to.

Oh dear, oh dear ---------- If someone had sent me a cdr of that i'd hunt them down..........

For sure not the "best" version, but it's not THAT bad. I mean, the tune is quite "wedding reception" to begin with. It's almost as if one would expect that you have something against Hall (& Oates)...

Sure it's not an Ian Levine tailor made ... ?

Well I think it remarkable that a version of a Northern Soul classic - done by legendary Philly producers - has been recorded by someone as well known as Darryl Hall and been stuck in the vaults since the Sixties.

Hello,

It's always interesting when things turn up, Neil, but to me it sounds as if the snare drum (and maybe the strings?) have been added to an old track. I wouldn't have a problem with that but somehow it just doesn't feel right to me. And the vocals are poor anyway so I really can't understand how anyone would play this in preference to Bunny Sigler.

But interesting all the same.

Hiya Paul,

I never said anyone would prefer to play this to Bunny Sigler.

Don't know about bits being added or not ......I have simply been sent a CDR.

Neil

PS - Thanks Pete for pointing me in the right direction for the ZZ Hill.

Any ideas for the Brenda & The Tabulations single? Have got it on USA. import but really want it on UK Action. And desperate for the Tyrone Davis Stateside demo.

That was rather intresting, i know not the best but i like it. Daryl Hall did a version of Move On Up in the early 90's.

Also released in the 60's by an English group named Timebox (Deram).
