OK so it looks like a lot of people think I'm wrong in saying that people are overpricing records. So here are two nice items which I have coming up on my next list. One is a mint demo of JEAN CARTER - LIKE ONE, and I mean mint, unplayed. The other is the extremely scarce issue copy of JANIE GRANT - MY HEART, YOUR HEART on Parkway. Condition mint minus, played one or two times maximum.

I'd be very interested to see what other people would price these at. Serious answers I mean.

If no-one else will have a go I will. Around £140 Jean Carter?

Looking at prices these have recently gone for on auctions (although none state mint/unplayed) :-

Janie Grant £100 (last auction for issue $156 VG/VG+)

Jean Carter demo - £150 (last auction was $260)

May be miles out but first guess

The last book prices I've got for these are:

jean carter demo 150 (jm) 150 (tb)

janie grant issue 200 (jm) 60 (tb)

the TB valuation of the janie grant is a joke, or a mistake - it's almost as tough as the Christine Cooper issue

I was going to stick 175 on each of those

Definite discrepancy on the Janie Grant book values. £75 from me was based on auction price of $156 roughly £80 but, hey what the hell do I know! Hope you get £175 each.

Only problem is - I think I was probably the last auction winner for both these records! laugh.gif

Hi Pete

Janie Grant is definitely rarer on a Stock Copy, and deserves the higher price.

You quite rightly compare it to a Christine Cooper Stock Copy, I would also compare to an Yvonne Baker Stock Copy, Anyone that wants one and see's one for sale then It is virtually a once in a lifetime chance. If I ever win the lottery these three would be on my wants list.

Stock Copies of these records never turn up in quantity and I suspect never will. I have the White DEMO for these records and If I ever needed to replace them, although not easy I probably could. If they were Stock Copies IMPOSSIBLE

I hope you sell It at a decent amount, It has It all Brilliant Record, RARE, Mint-

If it doesn't sell nothing changes, just try it another day -

I think I've had all of them now, including the Vickie Baines stock copy...amazing when you think that records like SOS Heart In Distress are round in massive quantities...

Pete how much for Yvonne Baker on a stocker ? i sold a Vicki Baines stocker for £500 quite a few years ago

Dunno Ted, I'd have thought about 600 for Yvonne Baker. I traded my Vickie Baines for over £1000 worth of records. Think I sold Christine Cooper issue for £400.

S.O.S was a minor hit hence vast number of copies, the others didn't sell. thumbsup.gif

Hi

Do we have any Idea how many Stock Copies would have been produced at the time, to make it worth their while at the printers etc.

I suppose they could have run a few off with Stock Labels while at the Pressing Plant pressing the DEMO's, but does anyone actually know?

Was there a known quantity of Stock Copies produced before they found out if it would be a hit or not.

Yes but if you are following up a hit, you prepare enough copies in case the follow up is a hit, they aren't going to make a run of 50 copies for a company like Parkway.

Anyway the Janie Grant is now £250 due to demand and rarity laugh.gif

Looks like the guy you bought that Jean Carter from might have them in quantity: https://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...mMakeTrack=true

Pete,

If it helps AUCTION finishing price for us on 20/09/06 for a Mint minus Janie Grant stock copy was £240

Jean Carter demo we set sale @ £150 a stock copy we achieved £461 on auction 31/03/05

So £60 for Janie Grant issue does seem a little on the cheap side.

Yeah that's a rare one alright. Another rare issue not mentioned is Jerry Jackson, never had one of those.
