Having just attempted a friends & family payment through paypal the total invoice included a 'Fee' of £1.96 - on a payment of £40 !!

I made various attempts but each time the same fee would be added, so had to take it on the chin and suffer the additional expense in order to satisfy my ourstanding order.

Just wondering if any one else has eperienced this ?? Also, is it a percentage of the payment amount or a set fee ??

Any feedback appreciated

Hi

if your paypal account is linked to a credit card and not a bank account you still get charged a fee wether you send it as payment for goods or family and friends. you may as well send it payment for goods at least your covered by insurance ect

hope this helps

Thanks Floyd.. thing is it is a debit account and it is linked to my bank account, which is why I rhought it strange I should incur a fee !!

Coincidentally - when attempting a paypal payment last week as friends & family (as I always do..) I received a message from paypal advising that my spending limit had been reached and for them to increase the limit I would have to ink my debit card to a bank account. After doing that and receivng notice of the same I made said payment - WITHOUT any additional fee added.

Just seems a bit pevculiar that this transaction (and for a LOT less than the payment mentined above) should incur this 'fee' of £1.96.. guess I'll have to have a telphone conversation with paypal - I'll update with the result of my conversation by posting on this thread..

Sending or receiving money between friends and family within the UK (in GBP) : Free when funded by the sender’s PayPal balance, bank account or debit card. If you use a credit card to send money, a fee of 3.4% + 20p applies.

Looks like you should't have been charged?

I wouldn't bother with that phone call. If PayPal suspect that you've been using 'friends & family' gift payments for purchases they can withdraw that facility to you. Maybe even bar you from using PayPal, I don't recall the details, but misuse of gifting is against their rules and they don't like it.
