Best foot forward. Do you have a favourite pair of dancing shoes

Do you have a pair of favourite/lucky dancing shoes, or indeed any other item of clothing, beer towel, bag etc that you feel is irreplaceable? Is it very old? How do ladies dance in heels? Do you wear different shoes for different floors? What's your oldest item of soul memorabilia (husbands/wives excepted!)!!! Have you kept your Spencers for old times' sake?

Love shoes.

My lass can't dance in heels always a flat dolly!

Jeffery West shoes, great for dancin'...I always wear two-tone wingtips.

Just spruced up after a weekender and a little soul nite, will get another few hours treatment before the next outing!

Currently a pair of leather soled brogues with a high shine upper which I was unsure about when I bought them but have grown to love, fav bit of memorabilia would have to be a framed Blues and Soul Special Otis Redding edition which is surrounded by the ticket stubs from all the gigs I went to from 71 through to late 80' ranging from Gladys Knight Odeon Theatre Manchester, a trio of Blues Legends tours at the Holdsworth Hall ,several Temps, Tops gigs, WAR at the FreeTrade Hall ,Ohio Players, Stylistics, George and Gwen McRae plus many more ending with Luther Vandross at the Apollo Manchester 1987, a real mix  I've always been open to all genres of Black Music as you can see. A lot of memories in a two by two frame.

i remember that Luther gig, think half of Manchester that didn't have tickets was trying to break in, great venue though the Apollo. anything bigger than there is just too big for me. right back on thread , as a fifteen year old at the casino think it was clarks nature treks  then polyvelts for me . did the job , got me past mrs. woods, god bless her.  must have looked ridiculous . Herringbone jacket from hepworths [ remember them ] 40 inch spencers and the afore mentioned shoes . got some funny looks at Victoria station ! remember all the hard core boys in M's in leather brogues.

Puma States, comfy as and you don't need to polish them ;)

Polishing shoes is great for the soul! I spend ages on mine, melting the wax, brushing, buffing with a cotton cloth and then with one of my lass's old black stockings, I love it, gonna do some right now in fact!

Hiya, sounds good, do the stockings fit ok, cheers

Hahaha they sure do! I have to slip them off her very slowly before I use them...

It's an old shoe shiners trick you ball the stocking into a ball and buff, it gives that amazing shine like in my pic above in the thread. :hatsoff2:

My irreplaceable Y fronts had since the Casino, (30 inch bottoms high waist band, nothing worse than feeling trussed up when shaking a leg), always wear them out to venues, toyed with the idea of giving them a wash but afraid to risk it these days. Certainly been lucky for me always seem to find plenty room on the floor when up dancing, now I think of it I always find plenty when I'm not!

Still remember it to this day, sat close to the front of the stage, totally mesmerised and in awe of the great man.

Amazing. And it looks in fab condition too. I hope all this old stuff is preserved and not tossed aside in house clearances when we've all gone to that maple sprung dance floor in the sky! Time someone opened a Music Museum.

In the (almost) words of Major Lance-  Ain't Much Sole ( In These Old Shoes)

DSCF9034.JPG

Bought these around 1972 as ordinary shoes but after a few years worn for soul nights only, as excellent for shuffling and sliding around all the major venues. Used over the next forty five years but eventually had to admit they were past their best, but couldn't chuck them away. Maybe I could get them stuck back together and polished up for one last outing.

Also still got a black leather Levi/Wrangler style jacket bought second hand in 1971. Still just about fits but if I wore it anywhere I'd look like some sad old git who thinks it's 1975.

Ooh sorry, Apollo...for those not used to ABC Manc

Christ I feel really old now, was it really that long ago, just checked my ticket as I thought that can't be the same concert I went to and bugger me it is, wishful thinking had it much later in my old head :(, funny how time plays it's tricks.

I remember going mad for a full length leather trench coat, which I finally got my hands on in 1979. Pretty impractical for the trek to Wigan, standing around on siberiatic :g: railway stations and the queue outside in the middle of winter. That's youth for you. Fashion before comfort!
