John Lewis (Louis)

It is with great sadness that I have been asked to inform the passing of John Lewis, after a short but brave fight. For the last few weeks John has received a great amount of care from the Bolton Hospice.
His loving wife, Heather and children, Paul & Jo have received a great deal of comfort from the many messages & cards from Johns many friends around the world.
John had the respect of many from his patronage of venues such as Blackpool Mecca, the Casino & Stafford.
John worked for the entertainment company Mecca, eventually managing venues including Manchester Tiffs and later Tiffany's in Wigan and was pivotal in the All-Nighters continuing there, after the demise of the casino.
John had a wicked sense of humour to the very end and he was also the first friend many of us would ring when in the need of advice or help.
After leaving Mecca, John pursued a long career in youth work, something he was passionate about and a subject we often discussed at length, whilst travelling to and from All-Nighters on many occasions.
It was clear, John and Heather were enjoying retirement together and until very recently he had played golf regularly.
As with many others on this site and elsewhere, I feel extremely priviliged to call Louis a friend & will miss him deeply.

John's Funeral takes place on Friday 18th November 2016  - 1.45pm
At Howe Bridge Crematorium, Lovers Lane, Atherton, M46 OPZ
Followed by Drinks,Buffet & Music at Westhoughton Cricket Club, Cappadocia Way, Westhoughton, BL5 2FB which is 10 mins from the crematorium. All are welcome to celebrate his life and share in his memory.

Terribly sad news :( One of the funniest quick witted blokes I knew, as Paul said a wicked sense of humour.  Always had a big smile on his face.   Thoughts and condolences to Heather and their kids.  Rest in peace mate.

That's really sad news. Didn't know Louis too well but he came across as a genuine nice guy. Will remember him for all the banter Andy Prolze and I used to have with him re Leeds v Manchester United whenever we bumped into him at Cleethorpes weekender, or a nighter somewhere!

What a lovely send off for a wonderful man.

A day of sadness with plenty of tears, but oh my goodness lots of laughs too, reminiscing about our irreplaceable Louis.

Louis did have the last laugh when the chap taking the service described how much Louis loved his music, went on to say there was always one record that he loved to play in his car, no matter what.  We were all waiting for a poignant soul record to come on when on comes "Marching On Together" the Leeds United anthem.  I, of course loved it, and was singing along quietly and giggling my head off.   Class move Louis!!!

His family's generosity was incredible with the first drinks (& there were quite a few drinks!!) being on them or as the directions to Westhoughton Cricket Club leaflet showed a photo of Louis with a bubble saying "Always be prepared!!  In case your satnav doesn't work here's a map to the cricket club .... First drinks on me!!!"    It was such a kind and thoughtful touch.

I am trying to find his daughter, Jo, on Facebook as I've promised to send her some photos of her Dad, but I can't find her so if anyone can point me in the right direction please will you PM me.

It was lovely to meet Heather, Paul & Jo, just a shame that it was in these awful circumstances and my heart truly does go out to them and all his family.

Sending lots of love

Ali xxx
