Lee Fields & The Expressions - Special Night - New Album Now Out

Lee Fields & The Expressions - Special Night - New Album Now Out magazine cover

A great new album release from Lee Fields and the Expressions through Big Crown Records

Here's a clip of the Record Label blurb, full details via the link that follows the below

'There are a few terms that get thrown around loosely, two of which are legend and retro-soul. One of these fits Lee Fields hand and glove, one of these doesn’t fit at all. Very few people in music have both earned the status of legendary and continue to solidify it. 50 years in the game and only getting better, gaining more fans, and evolving his sound on each album, Lee is in fact a Living Legend. This brings us to the misuse of the term “retro-soul” when talking about Mr. Fields. You don’t have to look far to find a younger generation emulating the essence and styles of an era the’ve only experienced through music and movies. It seems unfair to tag Lee with a term that implies imitation when he is part of the generation that actually defined the genre. Plain and simple, this is not that. “Special Night” is a masterclass in soul music past and present.'

The album appears to have been let out format wise in a staggered sort of way, the vinyl Lp is out now, the mp3s are out now, deezer etc again available now, but the cd below is not due out  till 14 Nov 2016, however there is a double cd out as well with instrumental versions on the second cd

Here's the meat...

So excited about this - my CD's on preorder and I'm hoping it arrives soon. My absolute favourite soul artist right now.

Really enjoying this album the last couple weeks, the lp not cheap but well worth it I think and yes would be great to see him live in Jan, at Gorilla in Manchester or Under the Bridge in London. Big Crown Records going very well it seems and looking forward to whatever's next. Cheers, Steve

yeah, funny place Manchester at the moment . lot of quality gigs half full or cancelled due to not enough sales. couldn't believe Leroy Hutson got cancelled with the valentine brothers in support , Leon Ware half full , kindred the family soul not exactly rammed, hope Lee gets the support he deserves

I didn't know any of these were appearing. Where are they advertised?

not massively advertised, all at the band on the wall . think the Leroy Hutson was switched to the Ritz but didn't happen anyway, fingers crossed for Lee, eh.

I think a lot of London gigs aren't very well advertised either. I only found out last week that Trina Broussard and Kindred The Family Soul are playing at the Jazz Café on 20 Nov. There’s no mention of it on their FB page and it only got mentioned on their emails last week

Thanks for the comments, Iv been reviewing soul albums for UK Vibe for some considerable time now.

I'm unsure as to what will be the 3rd 45 from the album, watch this space as they say.

Your right about it being a top year for our music, I cant keep up, which is how it should be.

wow thats a great double header  , have always looked upon London as the land of milk and honey going back over the years before computers became household de rigueur . Blues and Soul and Echoes seemed to be full of mouth watering acts coming over to the capitol but often not up north .
