Soulaction Posted November 9, 2016 Author Posted November 9, 2016 Cheers for that.Seems a bit low,it was £400 in my edition.Dont see it for sale too often. What does anyone else think.?Donna.
Soulaction Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 Anybody else have a view?Cheers Donna.
Chalky Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Like Dave says easy 400 IMO. Tough one to find. 1
Soulaction Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 Hi guys thanks for your input. We thought about that as well. And on J.Manships auction, probably a good bit more.I have not seen it for sale that often in recent times.Cheers Donna.
Soulaction Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 (edited) Our copy has a few issues with it.It has like a stress fracture through it.It has sellotape on the b.side.This is how we bought in in the 80s,and was'nt mentioned by the seller. He must not have noticed.Hmmm.It was about £30 at the time,so we decided to keep it,and not use the seller again.Somebody on here had a want for it,so i messaged explaining the issues it had.We thought about half the going rate, would be fair, say £200 for it.By the way as i explained, the main side plays great, and labels are clean. If you were not bothered about the b.side,it may be for you.Fine for d j ing as they say,or indeed at home.Plays fine on my deck.Anyway he offered me £75 for it,which i thought was far too little. We have no need to sell, was just thinking it might be a cheaper option,if he could not find one.Almost made to feel like i was an idiot for offering.I think most collectors have some wounded 45s,they compromised on.Or sold a pup, like we did What would anyone think would be a fair price to ask? Regards Donna. Edited November 10, 2016 by soulaction
Andybellwood Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Might help to use Record Collector's Grading Ready Reckoner ? Typically £1000 mint equates to £800 ex, £500 vg , £300 g, £150 fair, £80 poor , £25 bad . £500 mint , £400 ex, £250 vg, £150 g, £75 fair, £40 poor, £12 bad .
Soulaction Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 (edited) Hi,thanks for your input. It's not as simple as just grading vinyl, like you would a crackly record though is it?It is a bit of a tough one to put a price on.I suppose it depends how much someone wants it.A bit like a ming vase, with a hairline crack in it,or a jackson pollock with a sticker mark on it.Think we will just keep it,and not cause an international incident.Cheers Donna. Dobber Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 i got 300 quid for a vg copy 3 year ago, flew outta the door, loads of pms for it,i bet a m- copy would do 500 quid all day!
Chalky Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Doesn't take much for a hairline crack to become a break, especially if carrying them about for Djing. Look at goldmine guide and a cracked record is practically worthless.
Dave Pinch Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 in all honesty i think the goldmine guide and record collector guides are pretty worthless..ok for cliff richard and beatles records... not much use in the rare soul world..if a record is £1000 mint.... no one is gonna drop it to £800 if its been played once or twice 3
Soulaction Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 (edited) Agree Dave, what would you say was fair for mine?Or if it was yours. Edited November 10, 2016 by soulaction
Dave Pinch Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 if its 400 clean i would say 200 if cracked but clean.... but i mean it would only have to be inch or inch and half crackand not like the label paper holding it together..cheap records are maybe not worth hardly anything but when you talk rarites its a different matter imo
Chalky Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 I agree Dave re goldmine but a crack is a crack, mint it maybe but you ain't gonna get mint prices unless someone is desperate...then again there seems to be plenty of those about buying soul records right now. 1
Soulaction Posted November 10, 2016 Author Posted November 10, 2016 Dave,thanks for your reply.Donna.

Mark B Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 i got £400.00 for mine about 8 or 9 years ago
Soulcarp Posted November 10, 2016 Posted November 10, 2016 Would agree to the above 200 min for that minter 400 to 500 mannys auction sky's the limit good luck with you sale
Soulaction Posted November 11, 2016 Author Posted November 11, 2016 Thanks soulcarp.I have not seen it for sale for ages. And like i said,if not for the tape on the back you would hardly notice.Infact maybe tape could be removed, and cleaned, and that side might play fine as well.We just never had the inclination to try.As i have said it plays great. When you consider people pay top money even for records that play with loads of background noise,it at least plays with good sound.I just felt when i responded to the want,i was made to feel like a chancer.Even though we don't have any real need to sell.I still think about £200 would be fair for it.Appreciate all your input guys.Cheers Donna.
