Well I've seen a couple of lists on here today and over the last few days to be honest featuring records at the most ridiculous prices, sometimes double what I'd sell them for (that's 500 quid instead of 250 quid!) so the question is, are these people actually selling anything? Especially at a time like this when sales are ever harder to come by, I can't see the logic in putting prices up.

Their records...their prices.

Bit different if you're not a dealer who has to shift stuff fairly quickly to keep the cash flowing..if you're not that bothered if your stuff sells or not then obviously you might as well ask top $ for it.

I agree with you Pete, some of the asking prices for the mid price items lately have made me dizzy

I would say however of these guys with the top prices recently their lists keep recurring with very few sold, so I think that tells the story. And re the top dollar comment, absolutely, but if you aren't selling it thats not the market value, surely the measure of top dollar.I also think that the prices being asked must surely reflect the fact that these have been bought for similarly way over market value, hence desire to get a better price.

However I think there are far more bargains (realistic prices??) on this site lately, some real decent prices for the mid range stuff I think, and again I think a measure that other than Mr Manship, who is benefiting from his good stock and good service I suggest, prices for these £50 to £250 are coming down,

Although cant beleive I now include £250 as mid price since I have never paid that much!! whistling.gif

I am just waiting on the crash, so cmon those with the big collections, start offloading, you know you want to :shades:

Not for all dealers they aren't. I know plenty who are doing very well and at reasonable prices as well as what some might consider expensive.

And just to point something out - I never said I wasn't doing well - I'm doing alright, I sell about 80% of what I list, but as far as I'm concerned, I sell at fair prices. Do you or does anyone on the entire planet think the Velours is worth £500?

lets face its up to each and every one of us to decide what we want to pay for a particular record

if you want a tune but you feel its overpriced, you only have to be nice and make a realistic offer - it generally works for me :shades:

though Gash didn't take up the offer of my body for little major williams rolleyes.gif

Not by a long stroke and I didn't say I agreed with the prices. Velours should remain unsold unless there is still some out there with more money than sense. Glad you are doing alright :D

:wicked: I don't think we disagree that much Pete rolleyes.gif

Pete is right, some people are asking ridiculous prices for records. I can remember when you could buy a good record for five school dinner tickets.

I'm not sure how much school meals are these days but you can't tell me that five dinner tickets would cost hundreds of pounds. If that was the case, then why are so many children overweight? How can their parents afford it? It doesn't make sense.

And, by the way, if you see any skinny children you can bet their parents are record collectors.

You've instantly found the solution to the nations weight problem, everyone should be buying exspensive soul records instead of food. Problem solved thumbsup.gif

Rower's as well - apparently

Seriously, though. I'm not really in the market for 45's at the moment as I'm toying with buying some new Ping Iron's and the missus has made me fork out for a week in Barca - although I bought a great 'Johnny Soul' record for 3 quid 50 last week - but I thought they're were still some bargains in the sales section - but also some eyebrow raisers.

You pay's your money I suppose

Pete i totally agree with you on this one,

i am one of those who is building up a collection and is constantly looking for new tunes and the difference in prices with some sales is unbelievable,

as im quite new to the scene i really have to do my homework before buying a tune as i have not got the knowledge and expertise on labels, grading, value etc as say someone who has been in the scene forever.

if i cant find a price and get the info im after it is actually stoppping me from buying at the moment as i dont want to pay well over the odds on the tune that someone is trying to get top dollar for,

is it right for me to pay over the top for being a bit nieve and inexperienced when the true value is not just money but my passion for the scene and the belief that other like minded soulies are maybe and i say maybe trying it on.

Pete the few tunes i have had off of you recently are not only a great price but also value as to the grading you give them. its dealers like yourself i like to use and i like to think i can trust too, but that is something i am having to learn the hard way.

Im not saying that there are thieves about but there is a big difference in what people value identical records at and we aint talking a few quid are we now.

anyway that was my take on this post.

Bearsy

I'm very pleased for you Chris, good for you. But I'm not going to stand here and tell people I took £2000 on a list last week when a lot of the people only earn a 10th of that every week.

The facts are, records are harder to sell and people are more fussy about what they buy. Price guides are out of the window going by the set sales we see on here.

I'll sell records at reasonable and what I consider fair prices, if people want to pay twice as much for them from other people then that's entirely up to them.

You don't do a list every week Chris. If I only did one every month or every 6 weeks I'd take 10 grand a time.

Of course I have. It's only as rare as The Charades issue. Not exactly up to Dean Courtney standard.

how much would you list a Charade issue Pete?

Me, personally...300 quid but the demand for that is non-stop so maybe 350...but I'd have listed the Velours for 200-250 (I asked Mick Smith the same question and he also said 250)
