Mike Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Motown - The musical been running a while now Not really my cup of tea, but I'd say it be interesting hearing views on it all from anyone who's been to the show or indeed planning to go anyone like to pass on?
Shuffling around Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Well, the wife and I are going to it in a couple of weeks time. We've never been to a West End show before so I think we'll enjoy it as an occasion anyway...
Winsford Soul Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Would go and see it if it came to Manchester. Wouldn't go to London to see it Steve
Tomangoes Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Saw it in New York and it was packed..................A good show. As with all stories, with time they get 'fuzzy' so don't take it too literally. Always t shirts and cd's to buy at the end, but you wont find any rare stuff! Ed
Mark R Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Was looking at it as part of my 50th celebrations buy just tooooo expensive so we are doing Thriller instead!! Cheers, Mark R
Uk Soul Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 Went to see it in London I thought it was good and my wife loved it If you do it as part of a weekend away in London I think its a great idea Cheers Eric P.
Drew3 Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 In London to see Dream Girls in Nov. Think we'll hear much more soulful singing than if we'd picked the Motown show. Regards. Drew.
Dwr Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Agree with UK SOUL. My wife and I traveled down from the NW, saw the show and finished the night off at the 100 Club till the early hours - both events were great!! Cheers Dave
Catsprint Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 Saw it a few weeks ago.......if you don't know the 'Motwon story', it's OK for that little bit of history but I found some of the music lacked that real soulful sound.
Speedlimit Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 me and the wife went to see it a few weeks back, it was packed like already been said if you know the Motown story then this does not run in historical order of when the songs where released. I thought the show was great, and the singers were very good a specially when they did the temps the 4tops and the Jackson 5 these or me stole the show it's a great west end show which has the full endorsement of Berry Gordy himself whom was at the u.k. premier when it opened . Highly recommended
Bobby Dazzler Posted November 1, 2016 Posted November 1, 2016 Saw it in New York in July. Mrs Dazzler and I both loved it. Only criticism from me was that some of the chronology of the songs wasn't quite right but the singing, energy and overall staging was excellent. Well worth going to.

Amber Riley needs to get a recording contract...........As good as it get for a singer who can belt out a soulful sound. Talk about screaming? took my breath away. Cop this: Ed 1
Mod66 Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 Come on guys. See real artists and listen to vinyl at Blackpool and Whitby to name two. Why would anyone want to see a bunch of other people singing these songs As for the story we soul fans know it anyway. A bit like the Thriller musical. What's the point 1
Tomangoes Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 If you ever get the chance to see Amber Riley, take it. Soul singers are soul singers, whether in the past or in the present. I enjoyed watching the 'new' Contours at Whitby singing the 'old' Contours songs. MAYBE ITS JUST A LITTLE MISUNDERSTANDING......... The dream girls is about the terrible way 'singers' were treated by Mr Gordy and others. There are no Motown songs to be heard in this musical. A story worth telling imo. Ed
Mod66 Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 I do agree with much of what you say with reservations. However, I suppose thinking about it, I can't really talk as I have seen '' All or Nothing''
Tomangoes Posted March 3, 2017 Posted March 3, 2017 As time marches on, and less live acts are possible, these musical stories may fill a gap. The Jackie Wilson story? The funk brothers story? Who know's? Ed
