Paulmc Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Why have we not seen Marvin Gaye's version of "Sweet Thing" released. Why release a version of Marvin Gaye Its Not Unusual.
Guest closedms Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 I'd say that's down to the compiler's. From my point of view I enjoyed the first set, but volumes 2 & 3 have been a lot weaker, where's Brenda Holloway's All I Do Is Think About You or He's My Kinda Fellow for instance. On the flip side the 2 Chess 7's boxes have been excellent so, like i said it's down to the compiler.
Paulmc Posted October 29, 2016 Author Posted October 29, 2016 Does anyone know the name of the compiler at Universal
Steve L Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 The motown ones have been done by Richard Searling
Guest closedms Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 I assume it's Richard Searling as he provides the notes, but I don't know for sure. I do know that with all the brilliant unreleased Motown coming out of the vaults imho they should be irresistible collections & not just OK they may get it right next time.
Henrun Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 I have enjoyed this third box set the most. With the odd exception (not unusual). Can't really compare it to the chess ones as they are, in the main well known tunes that have already had a release and quite a few are pretty easy to obtain. They are great selections but I decided it was not worth it for the handful of tunes I didn't already have. All of the Motown tunes are getting their debut on 7"(I think). I'm sure there will be a fourth one soon. 1
Modernsoulsucks Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 I was fearing the worst re Gaye track but it's OK. Don't see the point of Al Kent at all, nor the couple of album cuts which are easily available for £10-20. Musically thought Randolph very average.
Wilxy Posted October 29, 2016 Posted October 29, 2016 Whilst I really appreciate the Motown Sound, and furthermore am not disapproving of the latest output, feel that there are far more worthwhile items that could be "brought to light".....so to speak.....
Guest closedms Posted October 30, 2016 Posted October 30, 2016 For me anyone of the following, as my expectations are that low, would be welcome. Father Dear - Miracles This Is Something New - Mary Wells He's the One - Velvelettes All I Do Is Think About You - Brenda Holloway Memory Chest - Tammi Terrell In the Neighbourhood - Chris Clark Nothing Can Ever Come Between Us - Chuck Jackson Your Heartaches I Can Surely Heal - David Ruffin I Just Can't Forget About You Baby - Fantastic Four I Love The Way She Loves Me - Jimmy Ruffin When My Love Was Born - Marvelettes Park St. Bridge - Bobby Taylor I Wanna Be Where You Are - Leon Ware Symphony [Demo Version] - Marvin Gaye Such is the quality of Brenda Holloway's unreleased on vinyl, a box of her own wouldn't go amiss either.
Eddie Hubbard Posted October 31, 2016 Posted October 31, 2016 I would like : Brenda Holloway - After all you've done ,Tommy Good - I gotta get away , Lewis Sisters - Breakaway ,The Velvelettes - The night that love died , Chris Clark - Sweet loving , Marvelettes - Because I love him .would love a 70's crossover set too Odyssey - Battened Ships , Thelma Houston - Nothing left to give ,Bottom and Co - Gotta find a true love , etc etc .....
