I'm listening to the Communicators - The Road as I type, it sounds good. I have their earlier single which is up to the same standard

Ahh,thanks Martin I don't think I've heard that before now.

'The Road' is a terrific tune,I first became aware of the track when I bought the double vinyl of the 'Funk Spectrum' compilation that Keb Darge  and Josh Davis (DJ Shadow) released in 1999.

I've looked on Discogs in the past but have never seen an original copy for sale although 'The Road' is actually the  B-side if i remember things correctly.

I expect most members here have little knowledge of the Rah Band and may never have indulged in their considerable releases. The Rah is Richard Anthony Hewson, one of the most important but hardly known English musicians since the late 60's. His mind boggling list of credits can be checked here: https://www.discogs.com/artist/93909-Richard-Hewson?filter_anv=0&type=Credits The variety of styles of music this man has been involved is truly remarkable, so much so that at some point I will have to go through his entire catalogue as there is guaranteed to be a number of winners in there I'm yet to discover. As you'll have guessed I had a large Rah Band session in yesterdays plays. I've entered the Youtube video links to some of the below in a second posting as due to the formatting of the copied and pasted info from my database it wasn't possible to do it here.

Regarding others, the second Rahmlee track below is near impossible to find https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gGIUiL3uhS8. Rain Bows Valley is a vocoder jam, the B sides being the better versions but they're not on Youtube, the A side is though https://youtu.be/1pR29n4bhrg?t=20. There is a also a 7" with a stunning slowy on the flip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9DCT6_9mDzE.

I rarely criticise a record that I feel might hurt other peoples feelings but in case anyone is curious about the Rainbow Brown LP and has yet to check it out, it's a very disappointing LP overall in my opinion. Till You Surrender is good but the remainder of it consists of two later recordings of tracks originally issued under the artist names Personal Touch and Cloud One, and the arrangements overall are uninspiring. There is minimal if any instrumental sections where they are being cried out for and the vocals are too repetitive on most of the tracks. It's dated 1981 but I imagine most of it was recorded a few years earlier. The reasons I've kept this LP are because it's so damned rare, I'd replaced the 12" of Surrender with it, and I like to have the musicians credits. The Tony Rallo LP contains Holdin On [same version as the 12"] but no other tracks of real note. It's worth having if you're a fan of the bass player Mo Foster, which I am.

Played yesterday, 1979 to 1986

Played this morning, 1981 to 1990

A few obscurities among these, none more so than the first one Ramsey 2C 3D which was a chance purchase from Craig Moerer back in 1999 as I already had a 7" by the same artist. It proved worthwhile being two sides of 1982 gimmicky funk.  There's a couple of go go tracks in there c/o Rare Essence, despite the potentially unappealing title Shoo Be Do Wop is one hell of a tune.

Both sides of Rare Moods are superb and can be listened to here https://www.discogs.com/Rare-Moods-Ive-Got-Love-Closer-To-Your-Love/release/1602121 If anyone has the 7" of this can they please scan the labels and picture sleeve and send them to me as there's conflicting info on Discogs re the credits, better still if someone has more detailed info by way of a promo info sheet that might have come with the record.

The Rat Trap Band is a 1981 rap out of Oakland although I prefer the instrumental side. It's on Hodisk and therefore comes as little surprise that it appears to be The Numonics under a different name. Finally Rawe Deal is Shakatak with their backing singer Jackie Rawe being promoted as lead.

It takes considerable time uploading these lists and sharing the knowledge, as yet though I have no meaningful feedback as to whether there's much interest for it here. I do suspect however that there are a few members quietly siphoning it off but without having the courtesy to say thanks and talk about their new discoveries. I'll give it a few more days but if nothing is forthcoming I will put my time to other uses.

Sorry Martin, i had meant  to reply earlier, I did listen to some off the tracks that you listed but they were not for me. I personally think that listing numerous tracks by the same group/ person is a bad idea as people might listen to the first one Not like it and not listen to the others which they might appreciate.

Try to mix it about a bit and things might change, this is only my opinion but i have been known to be right about 5% of the time ( if you ask my wife).

Hi, I hadn't logged in for a week or so and other than a minidisc of 1977 LP tracks I played several times whilst doing some work on the house I haven't played any records. Jimmy, glad you found the playlists informative but as I said earlier, unless someone bothers to comment on them it's assumed there's no interest at all. Fair to say a considerable percentage of my listed titles would have been previously unknown to many collectors as well, hence the added disappointment.

Back to the 1977 LP 1 minidisc, in the 1990's I started making minidisc compilations of LP tracks from LP's that overall were those which I was unlikely to play both sides of in one listening session. I played the one in the photograph several times in the last week or so and was surprised how good some of the tracks were, check them out. In another forum I'm about to upload a track I need to identify, take a listen please. Thanks, Martin

Still working on the house so no records played yet this week but whilst catching up on here I just listened to General Lee "We Did It," posted on this thread back in January. What a tune, that's the best track that is new to me that I've heard on here since joining late 2018. I've seen his Discogs credits and will look in more detail, but does anyone know of any other tracks by him that are essential listening please?

Here's one that's probably your kind of thing,Martin.

I'm pretty sure that General Lee  AKA Robert Q Lee only ever released a few solo  records,he was also a member of a group named Lost Weekend.

I wouldn't mind a copy of 'We Did It Baby' on vinyl but the cost of an original is too high for me,personally.

I picked up a series of pretty nice compilation CD's on the Counterpoint Records label entitled Jazz Bizniz Vol 1-3 for a couple of quid each which came out a few years ago that have some great tracks on them, including 'We Did It Baby',there's a link to them here if you want to check em' out.

You're right, that's definitely my kind of thing and I recognised the track from the video immediately but not as that 45. Can someone who owns that 45 confirm it is the correct song on Youtube as I am convinced I already have this track but as the final track on a major label LP by a different artist. Ironically as I recall, the track sounded somewhat out of place for the artist I believe I have it by. Failing that perhaps Patrick Forge or Mike Chadwick played it in the early 2000's on the radio and I took a recording of it. One things for sure, I know the track well already. This one will bug me for several hours now. Help!

Nice one thanks - in fact I spun a couple of them 3 or 4 times, Mary Browne being one of them - can't just seem to play it once lol. Also first heard it from IL, one time he was on in the main room at Cleethorpes. Probably one of my favourite 45's but I know not to everyone's taste

The other one I have to play again and again is Mark Capanni, just love it but again I know a bit marmite
