cracking tune, prefer it to the other version, that's one rare and expensive 45

Me too, though love Jackson Sisters as well

My copy has an edge warp so I got it relatively cheap - hardly ever see it for sale

You do?..That's prettty neat to hear,Chris!

I really like that Speedometer  track I posted which is actually the B-side,they have a proper, authentic Funk vibe to their music and the single is pretty slept on in my opinion..there's a few copies going very cheaply on Discogs.

I've mentiond this LP on several occasions in the Living Room DJ thread casually, but have decided to give you some more info complete with the links to all 8 tracks on Youtube. It's one that I've had probably since the mid 90's but hadn't paid it much attention. Then a few months ago I played it back to back, since when it's become an absolute classic and now ranks as a 10/10. Every track on it is a winner. It's a Ronnie Laws production from 1980, 6 full vocal tracks in the styles of soul or jazz funk, 2 instrumentals. The track Peaceful Stream may remind some listeners of the Pleasure track Thoughts Of Old Flames from 1979, not a huge surprise as you may recall Ronnie used musicians from Pleasure for some of his late 70's recordings, not here though. I expect there's many on this site who own this LP but have never realised just how good it is. I have a copy in stock if anyone fancies it.

Thanks - Chris is a good drummer and was one of the founders of Speedometer - he gets together with them mostly now for European festivals during the summer but was kicking his heels a bit at other times - the others are mostly London based and he lives here in the sticks (Lincs). We're playing similar stuff and going to do some local gigs (Nottingham, etc) - just working up a decent set at the moment.

He / they have had some amazing gigs as pick up band for loads of soul and funk acts - Sharon Jones, Lee Fields, Marva Whitney, etc when they've come over to do the Jazz Cafe or whatever without their own band

Excellent, I love that 9th Street Exit.

I've got a copy that looks nice enough but doesn't sound that great, I'm not sure if it's worn or if it's the production or the pressing. How crisp does yours sound? I would be tempted to replace mine if I thought it was worth it.

Yeah it's a great and underrated tune - need to dig it out and check - from memory it is pretty good though I think maybe styrene which doesn't help

Actually, thinking about it I've also got their other 45 which sounds really nice so it's probably just worn I would think, it plays ok but it could be better.

Last night I was digging out a few soul/funk cover versions of rock songs to play for my local vinyl night.... Started to get a bit easy listening towards the end so I might leave them for now. (That Johnny Harris track might not appeal to everyone but it is amazing once it gets going).

Aretha Franklin - I can't Get No Satisfaction

Spanky Wilson - Sunshine of Your Love

Monophonics - Bang Bang

Wilson Pickett - Hey Joe

King Curtis - Whole Lotta Love

Ravi Shankar - Jumpin Jack Flash

Sergio Mendes - After Midnight

Sivuca - Aint no sunshine

Johnny Harris - Paint it Black

Terumasa Hino - Send me your feelings (Flying Disk LP)

The Dramatics - Don't make me no promises (Cadet LP Dells vs Dramatics)

Bob Relf - Girl you're my kind of wonderful (Trans)
The Supremes - Up the ladder to the roof (Motown)
Jeffree - Love Loan (Expansion) ** see below
Michael Jackson - We're almost there (Motown)

Mary Love Comer - Caught up (Co Love 12")
Saint Tropez - Fill my life with love (Butterfly)
Garland Green - Just my way of loving you (Cotillion)
The Winstons - Color him Father (Metromedia)

* Bus Connection 'Skateboard' obscure Italian late 70's cut, just reissued on 12" but you can pick it up on the original 12". Could be a left field big room spin now IMO, though it might have been the Ghost Ship. Reckon it would have rocked at Cleethorpes back in the day. No clip on youtube but link to Juno soundfile below - see what you think (track 2):-

https://www.juno.co.uk/products/beppe-loda-italian-spaghetti-disco-70-volume/720407-01/

This is a cd that has interesting covers by Soul and Funk artists and is an album id kind of forgotten about until I catalogued it this afternoon.

I think it includes a couple of the tracks you mentioned in your post if I recall correctly,Jimmy.

There's also a double vinyl version of the lp available.

I had those two out myself last night, great minds think alike! One thing leads to another so I also played Grover Washington - Hydra, Aquarian Dream - You're a Star and Azymuth - Dear Limmertz. That was all though, the best Jazz funk tracks tend to be very long.

Yeah,I believe it's the same producers,Paul Hunter and Colin Gate who are responsible for both records although I don't ever recall hearing the track you've posted until now.

Pretty contrasting tunes in terms of their structure too!

This first para is copied from a posting I made on another thread:  The Deep Sensation B side [correct mix in video] is a mind blower, "Get Up." It's the work of a good friend of mine Colin Gate from Glasgow, he had a record shop there in the late 90's/early 2000's, and worked in a record shop in the states prior to such. Tracks sampled: Incognito "Summers Ended," B side of "Parisienne Girl" 1981 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tAlHLjdSR2Y and an obscure US boogie track from 1982 that Colin gave me a test pressing of, Thunderbolt "Love Is So Funny"

Deep Sensation - Get Up - This is a mind blower

I have a few demos and remixes of Colin's that were unreleased, I shall get them out in the coming days and take a listen. These are also his work

Space Jam - Chill Town New York, Touchdown Ease Your Mind sampled https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-cnPCxWsQyE
