Compared with some of the crap Russ was playing at the time it ain't that bad.

Searling used to play all his cover ups on his Radio Hallam soul show at the time, have loads on tape somewhere that have not seen the light of day for many years.

I've got 2 or 3 that people have passed onto me, I'll have to dig them out to remember what his C/U's were:

Rose Valentine -

Maurice McCallister -

Dee Dee Gartrell - Let's talk it over

Larmar Thomas - All of my life (Nurons)

Remember any others, unique to RS?

Cover ups, interesting, I covered the Peanut Duck at Morecambe in 1983, it got bootlegged vocal only as the same cover up still unknown today!

Just Brothers studio acetate covered again by me in 1983 sold back to Anderson in 1985, then sold to Butch, still playing in 2004 covered as the Just Brothers.

Jack 23 - The Centuries storming inst at wigan 1975 remained covered

until late 1980's,as The Gladiators.

Also a number of really good tunes from Simon Soussan covered in 1974/5 and still covered to this day(probably album tracks!)

Absolutely loads............................

Wasn't that the one that sounded like an instrumental of Shocking Blue's Venus? Grim indeed.

On the subject of cover ups what was the male version of 'Right Direction'? John Vincent had it covered as Jerry Jackson(I think) in 78.

I'm pleased you like it, it's not that bad. Most of my comments are tongue-in-cheek, a bit of bait! I didn't realise 'Pro-Plus' has been on the market for that long!

Back on the subject of cover ups,one of my favouret moments was at The Fleet, way back then, when a certain well known DJ pulled a perfectly covered record from his box,no writting on the plain white label,& enquired of the assembled group "what do you think of this?"......

But didn't he say exactly the same thing about that David Ruffin track at the very same weekender    :P   :(

Ruffin?? Soul?? Ain't that a bit too black and not hand-bag kicking enuff for searling these days

Would have thought a few more than 2 - 3. Have seen two copies for sale on auctions in recent months, know of one that could be coming up for sale. Know of at least one more.

The one on e-bay went for $1625.  JM was £1900 I think.  I think one was a demo one an issue.

ok then what about this one and has it ever been un covered would like to know as I ain't heard this one in years. Mr searling used to play Mike Theodor Orchestra "Nightime Shadows" inst at the casino around 1978/79. He then sold or swopped it with Sam when he was DJing at the casino. I asked sam about it in the late 80's/90's and he couldn't remeber it at all ! he played it for ages covered up.then it disappeared Anybody any wiser ? :P

link

Think I ended up with Mike Theodore Life Orchestra tune. Don't think it was ever uncovered. Sounds lousy now though. Well dated. Whats it worth to uncover it then :P
