sad to say that Tony died this morning ,he had been ill for 3-4 months and last time I visited him about 3 weeks ago he was meant to be on the mend and picking up so a real shock.for anybody that may not know or remember Tony by the name, he ran busses in the 70s from Gateshead to Wigan etc and was one hell of a nice bloke,no attitude, loved his music and lived life to the full.one of lifes good guys was Tony.hopefully some of the North East crowd can post some photos of him up ,well known and well respected as a person and a soul fan.another tragic loss...........................

Sad news Headsy. I dont know him, but just rang Bri to see if he knew him (being from Gateshead). He said he didnt really know him very well, but he was well known in the area & his brother went to junior school with Bri.

Shocked to hear this news. Tony was a real fixture of the soul scene in and around Gateshead in the 70''s. I hadn't seen him for quite a few years and I hadn't realised he was ill. He'll be much missed. I'm really saddened by this news. Respects to his family and all his friends.

All the best

VERY SAD NEWS INDEED,REMEMBER WHEN HE WON THE DANCE COMPETITION AT THE OLD MECCA IN SUNDERLAND,YEARS AGO WHEN EVERYONE JUST WANTED HIM TO WIN FOR THE LAUGH.A REAL NICE PERSON AND TOOK THE MAD BUS TO THE CASINO WHICH HE ORGANISED ONCE OR TWICE.

MY THOUGHTS GO OUT TO HIS FAMILY.

What tragic news. Tony was an old mate of mine from years back - used to go to various allnighters with him & his mates back in the 70s & 80s. Hadn't seen him in ages since moving to London and didn't know he was unwell.

RIP Tony bonnie lad

Thanks for that Jeff.

I spoke with Ray Callen yesterday and he asked me to call Julie about putting up this post but I could not contact her for obvious reasons. I am sure she would not mind.

Will post details up on here as soon as we hear something.
