I have a £500 record that is in M- condition except for some dry/hardened glue on the run in. It had been kept in an paper sleeve that had been sellotaped along the bottom. The record has picked up a small amount of the glue, not much, the record can still be cued up carefully. What's the best way to remove the glue.

  • if its styrene use chris's method, if its vinyl meths / surgical spirit should do the trick

  • I always find Nitric Acid is best for C&W records

  • Well that's probably 3 quid more than our friend Mr Bentley would offer, plus he would expect free shipping.

I've only had to do this once, I used warm/hot water and soap with extreme patience, good luck.

Don't have either, would Turps/white spirit be as good ?.

Always found good old can of petrol lighter fluid has the ability to remove sticker glue residue painlessly? Good luck.

Maybe 'Sticky Stuff Remover' ..... I've used it for removing price tag stickers on labels etc and works wonderfully .... It's about £5 from Amazon .... If not the other suggestions should do it

In my daughter's arts and crafts studio she soaks all her glue brushes in hand sanitiser.  It's probably the alcohol in it that dissolves the glue, so that may be worth a try.  A small bottle costs less than £1.  Just brush it on to the affected area.
