45cellar Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 That matches the demo Hi Ted The reason I asked was the other design on Popsike that I mentioned earlier. It looks like it was pressed at 2 different pressing plants or a different batch from the same pressing plant as the Label Design is different. It does make me wonder why it is so difficult to find. They must have only pressed up small quantities each time.

I think you will find there are more mirwood discs over here than in the states Koppel always said they were shipped in great quantity and never seem to turn up in the states now

Julianb Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 That matches the demo If you look VERY closely I think the l l is in fact an H Julian ( I had my eyes tested on Monday)
Ted Massey Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 If you look VERY closely I think the l l is in fact an H not on mine it must rarer
Guest martyn Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Think you're in the ballpark on that price - mine came from Adey Pierce at no more than 20. AFAIK Mira was the pop-orientated branch...my favourite in that style has to be The Forum "The river is wide"...but there may have been some crossover between labels. Jerry. Cheers Jerry, the reason I asked about the conection was that years ago in a junk shop in Chicago I found a box containing nothing but brand new unsold Mirwood/Mira stuf,so asumed there may have been a linkf. To my shame I left it behind-It was 'out of vogue' in 1980
Guest martyn Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Hi Martyn According to Manship's 3rd Edition 5510 DEMO is worth £20. However I haven't seen many DEMO's. I have noticed though, as with the others there are different Stock Copies .....................VINYL....................................VINYL....................................STYRENE I don't know if more DEMO's are about, but I haven't seen many considering the £20 VALUE. I wonder if there is a Styrene DEMO? I have one on The Mira Label which also had a release on Mirwood There obviously looks to be a connection, I would hazard a guess at them both being owned by Randy Wood, but I'm not sure. My demo of shotgun is also vinyl-can't say Ive seen a styrene one either.......£20 does seem cheap compared with what other obviously common Mirwood stuff goes for (ie£15-£20 for an issue of Oh my Darling)
Guest martyn Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Was just digging through some stuff for future eBaying and came across this nice white demo. Different tunes on each side, and a Weldon McDougal sticker! The gold stickers with Chips Weldon McDougall are common on Mirwood Demos.....Who was he?
45cellar Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 (edited) If you look VERY closely I think the l l is in fact an H not on mine it must rarer I double checked mine for this reason as my "Could It Be" is an "H" "That Beatin' Rhythm" has "11" quite close together almost an "H" "Cigarette "Ashes" definately "1 1" I had a look on Anoraks Corner, If I've read it right the "H" is an RCA Matrix H - Hollywood, California https://www.anorakscorner.homestead.com/Pre...gPlantInfo.html Edited October 26, 2006 by 45cellar

As a complete aside my Sandi sheldon and Cigarette Ashes come from an old Mecca pal last year. His words were " well, I got them from you, so it's nice that you get them back 30 years later!" Julian
Cheltsoulnights Posted October 26, 2006 Posted October 26, 2006 Got a WD of Cigarette Ashes but don't know how to do a scan! Sorry. Also got an issue of the Sandi Sheldon ( big 45 before you ask) just mentioned as you have it on your membership to SS. Julian The cigarette ashes on the right looks like mine and is vinyl will check
Pete S Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 (edited) The gold stickers with Chips Weldon McDougall are common on Mirwood Demos.....Who was he? Well we know who Weldon McDougal is, maybe Chips was his promotion company, I've found those stickers on loads of records...and boy are they impossible to remove. Just how many torn label copies of Marvelous Ray - Whirlpool are there?? https://motownsoul0.tripod.com/id26.html Edited October 27, 2006 by Pete-S

Weldon told me when they cut their records, mainly at 309 (Cameo Parkway) studios, they used to press only 300 records at a time due to budget. He struggled to get investors so had to record the songs himself and complete the manufacturing process too. He is a jack of all trades. He even did backing vocals for Barbara Masons' 'Yes I'm ready', which he wrote! 45cellar Posted October 27, 2006 Posted October 27, 2006 Hi This is part of my Collection List showing the Mirwood White DEMO's that I have. Some have A & B some have A & A - There doesn't appear to be any pattern to why some are and why some are not. Another thing is that some are Styrene and some are Vinyl depending on the pressing plant. In the case of 5523 I have 2 different DEMO's one with A & B the other A & A. I don't know if this happened with any of the other numbers. I have two different DEMO copies for 5519 i.e. Could I expect to find a DEMO copy of Mirwood 5511 with "My Little Girl" on the B Side ? I hope that this helps. Hi Here are the 2 Different DEMO's for 5519

Mirwood Mira etc Can I just say that the amount of knowledge shared on this thread has been stunning, Although I didn't set it going, I have found it most informative and It's helped me in my personal quest to complete the Mirwood label. Jerry Hipkiss Posted October 28, 2006 Posted October 28, 2006 (edited) my "Cigarette Ashes" Stock Copy is on Vinyl and has the following in the Deadwax "66-3088-B" @ 6 O'clock - Scratched "1 1" @ 3 O'Clock - Stamped My demo of Jackie Lee "Oh my darling" has the same markings, again on vinyl...and Martyn/Roger, yes there is a styrene demo of "Shotgun and the Duck", done at Monarch, delta no. 60607., with the title spread over two lines as per the issue. I'm beginning to think that there is more than one DEMO for most of the releases. https://www.popsike.com/php/detaildata.php?...nr=300013415540 My copy of "That Beatin' Rhythm" 5532 White DEMO is different to this one on Popsike for instance. I have already 2 different White DEMO's for 5519 & 5523 Then there are the 2 for 5534 Edited October 28, 2006 by 45cellar

Interesting...thought VJ went belly-up around the end of '65, just when Mirwood were getting going! BTW talking of LP's, if you have the old B & C Bob and Earl album, try getting the US Crestview version from the same year (1969?) and spotting the differences - alternate takes, even down to "My little girl" being vocal on the UK and instr. on the US release!

Hi Jackie Lee - Darkest Days Written By: Charles Jones Arranged By: James Carmichael Produced By: Smith-Relf-Jones Does anyone know If this was ever intended for release on Mirwood/Keymen etc This copy on ABC is a Styrene Monarch Delta # 73393 Which Dates it at September/October 1968 Whereas in this feature about Jackie Lee It mentions that It was 1966 I just wondered If anyone knows the date of this recording in relation to the Mirwood/Keymen stuff, considering the obvious link with Producers/Arrangers Edited November 4, 2006 by 45cellar
