John Elias Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Oo-Ma-Liddi / Let The Show Begin Released I think first on PRELUDE and then Storm but also reissued on Storm. So how to identify the original Storm release? Maybe someone on here has the knowledge. thanks
Guest trickbag Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 try here. J J Jackson - Oo-ma-liddi - Look At Your Box - Soul Source ricky.
Stompingsevens Posted August 4, 2016 Posted August 4, 2016 Just to add that the Prelude pressing is, as far as I know, an early Pittsburgh 'boot' which was pressed in the 70's. The record was never originally issued on Prelude, it's a 'made up' issue. I was told that by a couple of the Pittsburgh Guys at the Allentown show. The record was a biggy in Pittsburgh and apparently was a 'Mad Mike' favourite. The way to tell the original Storm pressing from the reproduction copy is that the repro has the title (and nothing else) etched in the run-off. From the link above it also appears the record was issued on Colpix which I've never seen.
John Elias Posted August 5, 2016 Author Posted August 5, 2016 Great info so far guys The copy I have here is the white label and etched in the deadwax is 45 - CDS - JJ-3 (4 ON FLIP) Which is also printed on the right side of the label.
Larsc Posted August 5, 2016 Posted August 5, 2016 Storm was the first label. And it was 1961. Where Prelude comes in is unclear. https://books.google.no/books?id=KSEEAAAAMBAJ&pg=PA4&dq=J.J.+Jackson+–++Let+The+Show+Begin&hl=no&sa=X&ved=0ahUKEwib3_KxvKfOAhXBDSwKHSx6BdMQ6AEIHjAA#v=onepage&q=J.J. Prelude was H B Barnum's label out of Los Angeles so isn't a boot, maybe it was pressed up because of "oldies" demand for it but it's legal and looks like a mid 60s pressing to me, we had it down as 67 but unconfirmed. I think the Colpix is a misp-reading of Candix. We have a scan of an original Candix test pressing of this (first label but one known copy) in the "New Breed Blues With Black Popcorn" CD. They switched it to the Storm label for release but it was distributed by Candix.
