here's the tracklisting of an album that was originally released by Fox Fanfare Music in the USA for licensing only, not for resale, not for broadcast. Mostly material that dates from their pre-Philly Sound days...some are Northern or related, some ballads...All songs are performed by the original (??) artists but I cannot figure out by who as the tracklisting does not give this information. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Gamble & Huff didn't "write" all these tunes, rather these tunes are linked to their publishing set up , yes ?

"Turn Back The Hands" was the super little dancer on the flip side to the Intruders "Cowboys To Girls" ... and has nothing to do with the Tyrone Davis classic ...

13. " I'll Be Standing By" is a great a cross over dancer Gamble & Huff wrote specifically for Lesley Gore on Mercury around 67 or 68 , towards the end of Lesley's tenure on that label ...

And ..... 34. "True Love Is On The Way" is the fantastic storming dancer that appeared on Bunny Sigler's brilliant Let The Good Times Roll LP on Parkway. Only appeared on the LP, never on a 45. I am absolutely staggered that this track virtually remains unknown on the northern scene, considering Bunny's stature amongst rare soul fans and the fact that the LP is well known too. And definitely makes the "I couldn't be arsed to carry LP's around " DJ brigade look very silly, doesn't it whistling.gif

19.love is a like a baseball game - THE INTRUDERS -there's also a version by the son of Otis Redding; Dexter Redding who recorded this tune with his group THE REDDINGS, released on Capricorn in 1972. Info from 'nowhere to run' by Gerri Hirshey

Either you or Gerri has that totally wrong - Dexter's record is called "Love Is Bigger Than Baseball" and it's a completely different song (apart from the fact that it's also about love and baseball, of course. It's a kiddie record - he was about 10 when he recorded it.

The group 'The Reddings' featuring an adult Dexter with his two brothers - didn't form until the early 80s, when they had a hit with one of the first big 'electro' records "The Smurf" (on Blieve In A Dream Records). Something I never thought I'd be discussing on Soul Source, I must admit...

Yes; all 40 tunes were written by Leon Huff, mostly in collaboration with Kenny Gamble. Except these tunes which were co-written with other composers;

9. everything's gonna be allright (+ John Madara/David White)

13.I'll be standing by (+Cindy Scott)

16.it's a crying same - LEN BARRY (+John Madara/David White/Len Barry)

18.love in them there hills - THE VIBRATIONS (+ Roland Chambers)

29.I love you baby - CINDY SCOTT (+John Madara/David White/Len Barry)

30.I struck it rich - LEN BARRY (OR BILLY HARNER) (+ Len Barry)

All compositions are linked to their publishing company; Double Diamond

Just had a listen to this on John M's site - certainly has that mid-late 60s Philly sound about it, so I'd say this is a good and accurate assumption. The group sounds white, although it is on Veep, which was UA's soul subsidiary of course.

BTW the actual group name is "By George & Co."
