He also owned Duke but if I remember rightly he didn't start the label but bought it after it had been in operation some years. I'll have to see some scans of others as can't evern remeber what some look like

On looking at the label I thought New Orleans, dunno why, just the style of writing I suppose similiar to others from that area I suppose. Couldn't read the credits etc to get any other clues.

(Not New York) Alec Palao and I are putting together a cd of Lord's stuff, mostly late 50's / early 60's screaming R&B, including 2 different versions of I was A Teenage Creature. He was in The Four Deuces who did W-P-L-J- (White Port Lemon Juice) on Music City outta Oakland. The single on Schireck is his only Northern Souler. We are looking for someone who has a mint copy that they can dub and scan for our cd project. The copy we have access to isn't very nice. The Lord is still alive and well and is in his early 7ts. The cd will either be on Ace Records or Frantic Records. We also have tons of other tapes from the Frantic vaults, lots of unreleased all recorded in the late 50's & early 60's, Some killer group stuff!!! Luther Vandross...Now that's hilarious! I would have thought the best known 45 on ARCHIVE among soul & funk collectors would be that great funk 45 by Sammy Gordon & the Hip Huggers "Upstairs on Boston Road Parts 1 & 2" I also believe that Lee Eldred's "Recuperating" got picked up for national distribution by Chess, although I too have always thought that ARCHIVES is a New York label. Also ARCHIVES may have had something to do with the notorious Hy Weiss who famously owned the OLD TOWN label ...

There was loads of these on ebay a few years back from a seller called Mayeluquet along with shed loads of other New Orleans stuff which she bought out in mass stock from a warehouse /shop, so I assumed it was a New Orleans label
