Andybellwood Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Did a studio version ever get a vinyl release ?
Roburt Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Don't think so. It was a staple of their live shows back in the mid 60's & they did a version on a BBC radio show back then (released on CD much later). Most of their early LP tracks were cover songs that they played live, so don't know why "Work Song" never made it onto vinyl back then. Maybe they cut a studio version but it wasn't used as enough tracks to fill an album were selected ahead of it. Maybe EMI (or Decca) had a version in the vaults. 1
Roburt Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 Most likely the inspiration for the Animals version ....... 2
Tobytyke Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 How good were they! Their version of Ike and Tina Turners "a Love Like Yours is superb. Were they the most soul/R&b influenced of the 60s british groups? Or maybe 2nd to Georgie Fame 2
Twinroots Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 The animals did some great stuff , eric burden did some other good stuff too.. The lp he did with war For one... But personally I think the action cover of the temps since I left my baby takes some beating?
Guest MBarrett Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 They were a great group but interestingly neither of the You Tube vids includes the original classic line up of Burdon, Price, Valentine, Chandler and Steel. On Work Song looks as if Alan Price had already left. I forgot it was that early. On the Beat Club vid it is a whole new line up behind Eric Burdon. The New Animals.
