JOEY D Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 (edited) Hi Guys....This is my 1st post on this forum. I hope you guys can help me. I picked up a vg+++ to near mint copy (2 light paper scuffs) of the OXFORD NIGHTS 45 on Delhi last weekend. I got it for 25 cents at a garage sale in Sacramento. The guy had (2) 45s for sale, The OXFORD NIGHTS & a square dance 45 It looked interesting so I bought it. I did some research when I got home and found out a quantity were found 2 years ago. I see that the last copy sold on Ebay for $793 in June of 2006. But I also see that the last 2 copies didn't sell for $500 & $336. I post a lot on the Garage band forum and on one of their threads (Thrift scores) I posted that I had found this 45 by OXFORD NIGHTS. One of the members recognized it and asked me if it had a flat label or glossy label. I said flat and that it had MUSIC CITY machine stamped in the dead wax. He PM'ed me and said that it was an original. But he said that the recent copies turned up were the glossy re-presses from a few years ago. Since these were going for high prices and that a lot of people were mad once they found out that they (got burned) weren't originals, the value on mine would be greatly diminished. What do you guys think? It seems my original would still be quite valuable. Any thoughts? Whoops...I just found a couple of more posts on this topic. But after reading all of them, I'm still in the dark. I'm sure mine is original. But what is the final word on the re-presses? Are they on flat or glossy labels? And do they have MUSIC CITY stamped in the dead wax? Thanx a lot Joey D Edited October 12, 2006 by JOEY D

I have been told that the copies that he has sold ARE as original ie. matt label and the MUSIC CITY stamp. But what's the point in buying when you don't know how many copies there are. On the same note, I see there are plenty of Clara Hardy's for sale on ebay. I'm getting sick of hearing it now. Everywhere I go. Never liked it personally. Phil.

Quinvy Posted October 12, 2006 Posted October 12, 2006 I'm glad I found one for 25 cents!!! Are you actually into Soul music Joey? or are you just making an enquiry on the 45? Have I bought off you on ebay, name rings a bell? Back on the subjact of the Oxford Nights. I've never actually seen one of the glossy label copies. They must be rarer than the originals.

I just sold the only known copy of the UNIQUES 45 (Esar) a few weeks ago on Ebay. I've also helped out Ace/Big Beat with a bunch of their releases.

JOEY D Posted October 12, 2006 Author Posted October 12, 2006 Sounds like no one is in agreement yet. There is no doubt that my flat black label with MUSIC CITY in the dead wax is original. 25 cents at a garage sale in Sacramento, 3000 miles away from Georgia. But looking at the old thread on this subject some people say the copies that surfaced 2 years ago were re-presses. Can someone step in and say for sure? I thought your name rang a bell, I think I have bought off you in the past. Welcome to Soul Source. Phil. Phil...What's your last name?

Guest in town Mikey Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 Just for your info Joey D. Original one is stamped "music city" and has 25 and a "B" in a circle scratched in on both sides, plus DL-0016-B on the ISALO side, and DL-0016-A on the flip. By the way, I loved your - How Can I Forget. Woo woo woo woo!
Guest Posted October 13, 2006 Posted October 13, 2006 (edited) im sure the glossy are reissues and dont have the stamp my original was flat matt label with music city stamp The repros used the ORIGINAL STAMPER so everything is THE SAME except the paper quality. The one to own the MATT grained paper finish copy, the 60s press. Edited October 13, 2006 by john manship

I'm sure whoever pressed the new versions, is keeping them close to the vest and I wouldn't have found one in a box at a garage sale in Sacramento for a BUCK !
