Pete S Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 Going by the tracks, those were done Stafford-era, still collectable titles, it's all part of the scene - sod ethics, a lot of people would love to be able to play these, in or out. Tell you what, 3 years ago I was getting a lot of acetates cut for myself and I sold them in the end, there must have been 15 double siders with things like cheating kind, ray agee, that sort of stuff - I sold the lot to a someone who is considered a 'big name dj' and theres no doubt he played them out before tracking down the originals. You probably wouldn't believe me if I told you who it was.
Guest Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 I would, know a few dj's who do this, and your very right, considered 'big' and respected too!
Guest in town Mikey Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 I think there was a discussion a while back along these lines. Somebody made the point that if Kenny Burrell played a Tamla Motown release of THAT record, would the dancefloor know? And if you had paid 15 grand for a piece of vinyl, would you risk some drunk nudging the decks or falling on them and wrecking the record? I still like to think I am listening and dancing to the original copies, but when people are spending the best part of the average annual wage on two or three records, then maybe they could be foregiven for keeping them wrapped in cotton wool.
Guest Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 Mikey maybe so, but that isnt what was said, we are talkign about someone getting a cut of something and not ownening the origional of it, for maybe a considerable amount of time, sometimes never

I was feeling a bit skittish. That George McCrae record just stuck out like a sore thumb. It's not Northern, it's a Top 40 disco hit from 1975. Not a 'forgotten 70's stomper'. Hope you get some sales though.

Pete S Posted November 23, 2004 Posted November 23, 2004 well I wasn't having a go at Mark. I was just goading Pete out of boredom Godz link Don't think he meant you Godz. As for me going soft, no way, I'd have done it myself but I have to look at it from the point of view that if I put a sales list out and someone took the piss, I could lose out on sales so I usually keep my views to myself when it comes to lists. Recently some stuff I've seen for sale on here, one was over £175 more than I asked for it recently, but I guess it's up to the customer what they want to pay.
