the sellers taking diabolical libertys

And there's me thinking the seller was trying to cash in on all the Yuro football and the referendum.

It's getting ridiculous now, OK there are boots that look like boots so at least you know it's a boot,
but when people are directly copying original labels? to me that's going too far. OK I know the seller says it's Repro,
but many don't and leave it to guess work for those that don't know any better, not right.

They are counterfeits not bootlegs

sticking a star on the label design to alert you to the "re-press" thing is another of the recent counterfeiters shite efforts that really makes me spit ( and a lady should not spit)...who is mass producing this stuff? it must be someone who has access to the records/ labels to scan. I lose the will to look at ebay lately as you have to trawl through endless listings of this stuff and its all available pretty cheaply if you dont care if its OV or not...in a dimly lit venue some of them could be passed off as originals...and sadly they are even counterfeiting relatively cheap records too an example being a couple of numonics tracks ...tenner each for an original?? and i have stock (original) if anyone wants them :wicked::wicked::wicked:

I think personally  the film northern soul has a lot to do with the recent spate of counterfeit items as its mostly tried and tested oldies and maybe a younger/seen the film generation with the new found vigour for vinyl will buy the songs in any format...and the film was shite to boot! ( pardon the boot pun)...

all above is spot on...........hope alls well with you cookie .....i have always wondered how much you can make on a boot priced at a tenner after all the costs of making ,advertising and posting these things......

I saw that "Outtasight" whom I am led to believe are a legal, above board company have just reissued "Phyllis Hyman - You Know How To Love Me" for £7.99 - Is there a big market for this, have I missed something??? Would you invest £500/£1000 or whatever  in reissuing this - Is this a "Hot item" somewhere??

Genuinely intrigued!!!!!!!!!

It does not look right to me.   The print is fainter than the original and a bit fuzzy..

The sure way to tell,  as mentioned earlier, is the "bed" style matrix in the run out.

Although Phyllis Hyman was quite a well played track on the Northern scene years ago, I popped it on  a couple of years ago at an event and it cleared the floor? so can't be that much call for it, plus I bet theres a few on Dicogs, can't be arsed looking, got the 12" anyway

This is it, if people like us who have been on the scene for years have trouble telling orig' from boot, what chance do the ones that are new to the scene have? none that's how much. It can only be described as daylight robbery

Just noticed this at the bottom the the above listing,  I'm pretty sure that the seller is contravening one of these?

How long copyright in sound recordings lasts

The length of term of copyright in a sound recording depends on whether or not it has been published (released) or has been communicated to the public (for example, played on the radio)
  • if a recording is not published or communicated to the public, copyright lasts for 50 years from when the recording was made
  • if a recording is published within 50 years of when it was made, copyright lasts for 70 years from the year it was first published
  • if a recording is not published within 50 years of when it was made, but it is communicated to the public, copyright lasts for 70 years from the year it was first communicated to the public
  • if a recording is first communicated to the public within 50 years of when it was made and is then published at a later date (but within 70 years of its first communication to the public), copyright lasts for 70 years from the year it was first published

At the height of the rare groove boom, I had people begging me to stock their newly manufactured illicit compilations, and I wouldn't. Having said that, as I'm having a bit of a clear out, I am selling old bootleg 45's out of my collection that I acquired as a young/skint person back in the 70's/early eighties when just beginning to learn about the meandering world of soul records. So I'm not perfect but at least I'm not a crook!

I think the star thing helps us to scroll down quickly rather than take a closer look. The real threat lies in photocopies of original labels being stuck on boots, counterfeits etc. It's reached the point that eBay dealers with an England address are not worth checking out as the majority are flogging unoriginal records. There is a market for repro stuff but it should be abundantly clear that it is not the real deal. Lot of  fake Pointers Sisters on Atlantic flying around recently and selling for £50 apparently...unbelievable.

'This Should Stop" ; Totally agree all the whingeing and whining from "Dinky Toy' , 'Beer Mat" , O.V.O. trophy collectors ! It does not matter, don't waste my time worrying about silly little bootlegs littering this website with "grumpy sad old gifts" , what about the music? Surely ,David M Lee (writer of " You ' Been Gone Too long") would be grateful of the royalties and recognition if Adele recorded  his 2 minute jingle, like the Just brothers where grateful to Fat boy Slim for a "Slice " of the action(about Fifty Grand), Get a Life .LOL Johnny
