jimmy clitheroe Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Just wondered if anyone's thinking about buying Manships New book , Out in September @ £85 ..seems a lot imho ....Paul
Sammy Seaman Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 agree it is a lot of money £75 +£8 post but we will buy it anyway !!!!!!
Girdwoodinc Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 that's for the hardback version though, surely a soft back one will be coming out as well?
Dean Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 It's saved me more than £75 over the years. Do I take it that this edition has the colour photos of various boots / second issues / originals. Thought the 5th edition was most valuable for that detail. 2
Popular Post Rob Wigley Posted June 2, 2016 Popular Post Posted June 2, 2016 I like looking at the pictures...........tripled in price ? like most of the records ! Rob 4
Bbrich Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Agree with Dean the info can save you money. Might buy 2 then get JM to auction the spare when they are no longer available !! 1
Tricky Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Has it not got Albums in it as well this time? If it has and it is a much bigger volume then i will probably bite the bullet.

If I had purchased at them "Guide Prices" .... I would be more than £7500 worse off ! ? 3
Zanetti Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Will there be a renovation of the records? Bought the 6th edition once and compared to the 5th and i mean i can remember that e.g. Louis Jordan 65 Bars was still on 15£!! Edited June 2, 2016 by Zanetti
Zanetti Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I would like more to have a new "Million Dollar Book" called Vol.2
jimmy clitheroe Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 Says it's a Numbered run of 1000 copies, wonder if they will be any on Amazon
Frankie Crocker Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Edition 7 is long overdue but I hope it reflects the actual market rather than just John's sales. Not sure why albums are to feature in this. The volume will be too big to travel with, and too heavy unless there is to be a paperback edition. Sure, I will buy a copy but plan to carry on using volumes 5 and 6 as they have useful info in them.
jimmy clitheroe Posted June 2, 2016 Author Posted June 2, 2016 To be honest , most of the records I buy are 30%-50% at least cheaper than johns guide...way out on some prices
Guest johnny hart Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 JM , has certainly got massive "Cojones" to attempt another price guide in today's mad market! How to give definitive prices would seem a massive challenge, but I am sure with Stella , Johnny will have risen to it! I commend him for the work and effort he has displayed since his Initial effort in 2001, Salud, Johnny ,Malaga, Spain.
Louise Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 (edited) Just a thought but with the current popular trend for adult colouring books, would there be a potential market for a self pricing , price guide with laminated pages where you would be able to add, delete or amend prices due to any flutuations in the market at will ? bobkayli Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 Sent the Manship Mail advertising the book hopefully to my wife without comment. seems my birthday present is sorted so feeling quite chuffed! however she hasn't let drop yet what she expects in return....
Britmusicsoulfan Posted June 2, 2016 Posted June 2, 2016 I pre-ordered it. Simply having label scans, detail about boots, second issues, originals. It's well worth having, as I don't travel with it. I use it for the information in it, not to price records.
Popular Post Tricky Posted June 3, 2016 Popular Post Posted June 3, 2016 What John actually did in 2001 was cock it up for everybody going to the States. 5

Virtually no difference between editions. Tim's been left well and truly behind. Not sure there is a place for his book now John has cornered the market.

Two schools of thought on this. The book actually helped diggers with limited knowledge and brought a heap of rare records to the surface. Alternatively, the era of dirt cheap records ended and everyone started scrapping for rarities pushing the prices up. The onslaught of eBay and emergence of Popsike changed the way US dealers did business just as much as John's books. In trips to the US recently, it has been a real asset despite the higher prices of records as it's better to have the records at any price rather than not at all. 1
jimmy clitheroe Posted June 4, 2016 Author Posted June 4, 2016 Sadly never been crate digging in the U.S , Do they understand that the majority of the prices are in the guides are wildly over priced? Just my opinion like...Paul
Quinvy Posted June 4, 2016 Posted June 4, 2016 In actual fact, many of the big ticket tunes have been fetching far more than the prices in volume 6 for a long time now.
Mister Fish Posted July 20, 2016 Posted July 20, 2016 There are some massively undervalued 45's in the guide as well especially if you're looking for 70's I understand there will be lots of 'unknowns' (meaning not sold via John) in the book as well. So a much more rounded and welcomed edition imo. Quote

I agree, there is always a huge amount of stuff thats listed a lot cheaper than need be in his guides. £75 quid for some quality record porn is a steal. Who's toilet would be without one... 3
