I'm a bit of a dyed in the wool 60"s(ish) styles but love looking around stuff. Listened To Esther Phillips Going Out Of My Head with new ears today and thought what a tune to play out. Modern Soul at one of it's finest moments but with what a nice Chugging piece of Northern underneath that. I'll post it if you don't mind just as a reminder to give it a listen. :D

I agree.  Going beyond tracks on compilations I have been buying her albums on CD which are highly varied and well made.  I do adore songs combining sixties sound with more modern production, it makes for good music on headphones while travelling.

Great !  'From 'A Whisper To A Scream' cd , but not on the vinyl LP ?

Not sure it was ever released on vinyl to be honest, Andy.

Cheers

I would suggest all you soul heads check out Esthers early cuts for Federal as 'Little Esther'. In particular the duet with Clyde Mcphatter 'Heart To Heart' which to my mind combines the finest two voices in Rhythm 'n' Blues. She also cut a fine ballad on Decca 'Stop Crying'. Her voice is sublime and I still shudder everytime I hear her, great stuff.
