So just dropped Ruben off at Heathrow after a hectic week and a half.
Ruben is one of the key players on the ‘Lowrider’ scene in East L.A. who has been over DJing in Europe for the first time
When he first arrived he wowed the European crowd at the Bamberg, Soulshakers Weekender, playing two barnstorming dance set at the allnighters and finishing with a set that had the room swaying to his mellow sound. So pleasing Malayka& SuSu who brought him over there.
Ruben playing the main room Bamberg
Next, for him Sheffield and playing for some of the most knowledgeable soul lovers in the UK at Diggin' Deep, organised by Sean Hamsey& Kev Briscoe This he took in his stride pleasing all with his cool manner and beats. Qoute of the trip at this point has to go to John Manship, who turned to Sean Hampseyat one stage and said 'Sean, that's where you've been getting it wrong all these years, you need to get a hat', in referance to Ruben's sartorial elegance.
A little culture with Sean Hampsey at Chatsworth
Then finally to the nitty gritty city that is Bristol and his final set in Europe at The Love In. Here he was joined by a small collective of DJ's including Myron E all put together by Tommy Charles. Bristol & Gloucester's 'Souligentsia' turned out in good fashion to listen to him play and generally send him off with a smile on his face.
It's been fun and a pleasure to have him here........................
Ruben, Myron E & myself
He has now left here with a big smile on his face. In between all the soul music, talking about souol music and explaining to many the L.A. Lowrider scene, he got time to check out some of the UK culture, with visits to Gloucesters 18th century docks, the roman city foundations and finally the cathedral, where he noted 'Wow this stuff is more than twice the age of the U.S.A.. Then whilst visiting Yorkshire, he was treated to Chatsworth House, many a pub and the lovely city of Chesterfield. So all in all a visit for the mind and soul .......
Ruben Molina, this time I didn't lose him !!!!
