Darren and Phil have worked hard on Soul Train. They have pulled together a crowd of open-minded soulies with a passion to hear new sounds of all types and to dance. I've met Darren through Soul Funktion, Spirit and similar venues and I know he knows his onions. So, I was well chuffed to be asked up to his lovely home town of Ramsbottom (no sn*****ing at the back please - it IS a lovely place!) to spin a few especially alongside my Second City Soul partner-in-crime and a man with so much fantastic rare soul in his boxes, Mr Kevin Higham. I wanted to mix it up a bit and here's what I came up with on the night:

1st Set:
(1) Apaches - Trying To Make Ends Meet (Big8)
(2) Dickie Wonder - Nobody Knows (Golden Triangle)
(3) Frankie Freeman - This Old Shack (Ghetto)
(4) Joe Willis & The Mighty Invaders- Baby You Got It (Greenwood)
(5) Johnny Summers - I'm Still Yours (Yorktown)
(6) Johnny De'Vigne - I Smell Trouble (De-Lite)
(7) Bonnie Blanchard - You're The Only One (CRS)
(8) Mark V Unlimited - Gone (Sagport)
(9) The Paramount Four - You Don't Know (Southern City)
(10) Bobby Rush - Just Be Yourself (Salem)
(11) The Soul Rockers - If The Shoe Fits Ya Baby (Buddah)
(12) Chuck Bridges - Don't You Make Me Cry (Scoop)
(13) Crown Four - Birth Of A Playboy (Lee John)
(14) Deloris Ealy - I've Been Searching (Velvet)
(15) Jimmy Bo Horne - Hey There Jim (Dig)
(16) The Voices Of East Harlem - New Vibrations (Just Sunshine)

2nd Set:
(1) The Four Sights - Love Is A Hurting Game (Shy-Soul)
(2) E T White & His Great Potential Band - Got To Find A True Love (Great Potential)
(3) The International Five - I Need You (Starway)
(4) Freddy Hill - Mr Lucky (Ru-Tee)
(5) Oscar Perry - I'm On My Way (Paradise)
(6) Entertainers IV - Just Ain't My Day (Dore)
(7) Funder Cooper - I Didn't Know (Don't Shoot Me) (Lamp)
(8) Caffey Brothers - Make Me Over (Aura)
(9) The Precious Three - I Need A Man (Ref-O-Ree)
(10) Mary Mundy - Electric Ghetto (Insurance City)
(11) The New Establishment - Ridin' High (United World)
(12) The Soul Messengers - I've Been Changed (Elbam!)
(13) The Soul Messengers - That Girl (Phil's)
(14) Charles Simmons - Save The World (Hitsound)
(15) Act III - Today I Want To Stay Inside (Harley)
(16) The Shades Of Love - Such Good Friends (Delon)

Thanks to the lovely people at Soul Train for making me and Kev feel welcome, for asking about stuff we played and for dancing. If you live in the North West and you like your DJs NOT to play safe, then you really should get along to this venue. If Top 500 is your bag, definitely not for you.
