Nick Hackett Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Syl Johnson..thought red label and demo's( 200) were the same mix,and yellow (201) was a different mix.
Chalky Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 (edited) SYL JOHNSON DO YOU KNOW WHAT LOVE IS / THE LOVE I FOUND IN YOU SPECIAL AGENT 200 DJ DO YOU KNOW WHAT LOVE IS / THE LOVE I FOUND IN YOU SPECIAL AGENT 200 red label DO YOU KNOW WHAT LOVE IS / THINGS AIN'T RIGHT SPECIAL AGENT 201 yellow label thanks john. The Red one is the Northern Version The Yellow one is inferior not sure on the Demo, but have been led to believe its the yellow version. Hope this helps the mix with the intro is on both red and yellow Special Agent 200 with flip The Love I Found In You. yellow Special Agent 201 with different flip, Things Ain't Right, off top of my head this is one without intro, maybe someone else will verify as well. imo probaby the rarest? white demos without the intro (drum and piano) probably the rarest and white demos with the intro (horns) do exist as well. Edited October 7, 2006 by chalky
Jumpinjoan Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 I haven't really got a jar of glue John... but i'm sure i would have remembered hearing a different version of Lashawn Collins... probably just not heard it yet eh. Here's my yellow label copy anyway... maybe fellow soul sourcers will post the other colours up and that way we can all compare them.. i think it's dead interesting
Guest martinsbox Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 the mix with the intro is on both red and yellow Special Agent 200 with flip The Love I Found In You. yellow Special Agent 201 with different flip, Things Ain't Right, off top of my head this is one without intro, maybe someone else will verify as well. imo probaby the rarest? white demos without the intro (drum and piano) probably the rarest and white demos with the intro (horns) do exist as well. The red Special Agent copy has the best and longest intro. The yellow copy MAY be rarer, but not so SPECIAL. Wish I had not sold my copy four of five years ago! :fool: Martin
Gasher Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Ive never sen a yellow issue with the drum and piano intro?? who has one..anyone..?? white demos have the same intro as I have one and it doesnt have horns as chalky suggests and may mate has the red issue and the intros they are the same so are you saying there are 3 different intros on the demo too?? demo without drums and piano demo with horns and my demo which is the same as the red issue with drums and piano but no horns?????????????????????? 3 diffferent issues albeit on 2 colours and 3 diff demo takes.. now im confused WTF is that all aboot stranger that fiction the gasher the mix with the intro is on both red and yellow Special Agent 200 with flip The Love I Found In You. yellow Special Agent 201 with different flip, Things Ain't Right, off top of my head this is one without intro, maybe someone else will verify as well. imo probaby the rarest? white demos without the intro (drum and piano) probably the rarest and white demos with the intro (horns) do exist as well.
bri pinch Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 My light blue copy of LaShawn Collins plays exactly the same version as joans yellow copy. best, bri.
Dunc Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 Hello John Re Syl Johnson: My red No 200 has the full intro and includes horns etc and has an extra drum beat throughout the record, which is unlike the yellow one. Played it once at a mates birthday do and Rod Shard hadn't heard this version before with the extra beat going through. If this is different to other red ones let me know and I will post a clip. Someone once told me the red was the rarest of the two issues. Hope this helps Dunc
Gasher Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 why not someone just post all the diff versions so we can hear them please..as im confused aboot horns and extra drumbeats throuought.?? post up them clips PLEASE I need to decide whats what
Chris Anderton Posted October 7, 2006 Posted October 7, 2006 John, Had all the Lashawans at one time or another and i cant tell them apart mate. Always kept with my blue one i bought off you at Cleethorpes a few years ago. Actually i googled lashawn Collins a couple of years ago, got an old photo from the 60s/70s listing all the people in the photo. One was Lashawn, i emailed the person posting the photo trying to get info but got no joy....lets face it as the old football chant goes....there really has to be "Only one lashawn Collins....One lashawn Collinnnnnssssss!" Chris Chris

John, regarding the LaShawn Collins, the light blue and yellow copies are the superior versions as they have the twinkling vibes which give the record so much charm . The green copy lacks the vibes completely and make the tune sound "empty" and gives it an "unfinished" or demo like feel. Don't know about the red copy, sorry, haven't heard it. Cheers.

Guest Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 (edited) When finding different mixes you need to check the deadwax. I've spent a little time looking for some Syl Johnson in our stock and come up with these so far. Deadwax matrix SP1 is on both labels 1. red stock copy 2. White Demo this mix is the PIANO intro mix a little weaker than mix deadwax matrix 20079 -2 is also on the Red label is the brass full-on intro with piano backin' Note there is NO different in the design of the Red labels, both mixes have identical labels. a little confusing, so what's the deadwax matrix on the yellow copy which i don't have at the 'mo? or do both matrix's exsist on that colour too. Same question for the white demo. Thanks for the help so far Edited October 8, 2006 by john manship
Guest Posted October 8, 2006 Posted October 8, 2006 Thanks for the help on this especially from "Sunnysoul" So there another question. Does the RED LABEL Lashawn Collins have the full VIBES backing. ??

You've got one, or you had one didn't you Ted? Ted

I've been told, pretty sure it was mentioned on the RSF when this disc talked about some time ago, that thew SP-1 mix does exist on both Red and Yellow Special Agent 200. Haven't seen myself, can only pass on what was said on the RSF.
