Sean Hampsey Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 (edited) I Have Denise La Salles 'love reputation' on this...... any info on releases etc anything at all much appreciated cheers mel Tarpon was owned by Billy "The Kid" Emerson. He was co-author of "A Love Reputation". Emerson was born in 'Tarpon' Florida but moved to chicago, recording a cracking R&B 45 with M-Pac "The Whip" and others, before becoming an Exec at Chess... hence the later Chess Issue. I believe the only other tracks on Tarpon are by Billy The Kid and Matt "Guitar" Murphy (R&R). Don't think there's any difference (other than the colour). Sean Edited October 5, 2006 by Sean Hampsey
Guest melandthensome Posted October 5, 2006 Posted October 5, 2006 nice one sean I certainly have heard of Mr Emerson......
Pomonkey Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Billy Emerson does a fair few, can heartily recommend "Dancing Whippersnapper"!!! Still looking for "I can do the funky broadway" if anyone has one....!!
Guest TONY ROUNCE Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 e. I believe the only other tracks on Tarpon are by Billy The Kid and Matt "Guitar" Murphy (R&R). . Sean Sean's right (this time LOL) The only other two singles I've ever seen on tarpon are 6605 - Matt Guitar Murphy - Suffering Soul Parts 1 & 2 (also issued on Emerson 5555 as by "Guitar Murphy" ) 6606 - Billy The Kid Enerson - When It Rains It Pours (originally recorded by BTKE for Sun in 1955)/It Do Me So Good I'm also aware of Tarpon 6001, which is again by Emerson, "I Took It So Hard" . This was also either cut for or issued on USA 777, with "When It Rains" on the B side. The matrix number for the Tarpon issue of "Took It" is EX-1034, which suggests that it might also have been scheduled for released on Vee-Jay's short lived Exodus label... TONE
Dave Thorley Posted October 11, 2006 Posted October 11, 2006 Billy Emerson does a fair few, can heartily recommend "Dancing Whippersnapper"!!! Still looking for "I can do the funky broadway" if anyone has one....!! He also has a great release on Chirrup, cracking uptempo R&B 'Every woman I know'. I maybe wrong but I think he was married to Denise LaSalle
