Well... have you heard this particular 45? The b-side is a ballad. The a-side is an uptempo strings-and-things tune that I can imagine have had spins on the popcorn scene. "It Might As Well Rain Until September" is a decent and well constructed pop tune performed and written by one (actually two!) of the most talented song writers ever. Doesn't make it a soul record ofcourse, or northern soul for that matter. But... I could find worse examples.

It Might As Well Rain Until September was a massive hit wasn't it? Covered by numerous artists as well.

Worse examples of what? Records? Or records listed as Nothern Soul that are obviously not?

It doesn't matter if it is a perfectly crafted record by incredibly talented songwriters, why is it listed as Northern Soul? ranting_1.gif

It's listed as Northern Soul because that will get attention on Ebay.

The reason it will get attention on Ebay is because everyone across the world either has access to sites like this one or now has access to a 'Price Guide' and so they think for instance they can list something as 'Northern Soul' and that will guarantee a high price because it is listed as...'Northern Soul'...because the 'Price Guide' tells them that 'Northern Soul' is expensive and people will pay high prices for a 'Northern Soul' record.

Its called salesmanship or marketing.

If I say to you 'This soap powder is new and improved' and you don't know any better, you might be more inclined to buy it.

So...if I say to you a pop record by Carole King is a 'Northern Soul' and you don't know any better then you might be more inclined to buy it.
