Cheltsoulnights Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 How much are these rated at? Cheers Johnny Which tracks? there are 2 Chalfontes tunes on my site alone
Guest kermack Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 'Little girl lost' & 'He loves me'..................
Guest hammy Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Chalfontes is 40-50 quid if you ask me. I've heard there's also a boot where the artist name is spelled like it's pronounced (SHAL-FONT-EYS) or similar but can't confirm. Hammy

Hammy 'He Loves Me/ Confessing My Love' I would say go for about twenty quid more although I reckon if it were priced by sound alone it would be ten times that !
Guest claude rains Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 'Little girl lost' & 'He loves me'.................. The Shepards "Little Girl Lost" Mirwood I thought it would be around £30, though I got mine many years ago for about £8.. Class northern lyrics " When I look at you, little girl lost, I'm lost too, without you, little girl lost" fades out Fantastic!!! I maybe wrong on the estimate as I seem to always under price what records go for now that I bought years ago, much to my friends amusement,
Guest noss Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 The Shepards is actually on ABC Paramount. It goes for around £150. The issue is much harder than the demo and Manship had one on his auction recently. It only made the same price as the demo however. I have both issue and demo, so if you are willing to pay the going rate I would let the demo go.

The issue is much harder than the demo Like most ABC's, one question, as it was released on both ABC & ABC Paramount, is it a case of east coast, west coast or is the ABC Paramount earlier. Both share the same catalouge number I think. Thanks for the offer, yours is on ABC Paramount?, food for thought. Dont think these guys were related to Mirwoods Shepperds. Johnny

Sorry, yeah my mistake, was thinking of the other shepards track, b-side "how do you like it" which I have as well. Didn't realise it was goin for £150, as usual slightly out on my prices.
Headsy Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 (edited) Chalfontes was re-issued by MERCURY, the first issue is red, second issue should be about £10-20 IMO. Edited October 4, 2006 by headsy
45cellar Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 'Little girl lost' & 'He loves me'.................. Hi I have scanned my copies of the original DEMO & Stock copy for The Chalfontes. It was re-issued on the Skyscraper Design Mercury Label in the 70's. I hope this helps.
Modernsoulsucks Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Headsy, you may wanna look at this https://search-completed.ebay.com/search/se...o%3D2&fgtp= ROD
Headsy Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 did'nt come up mate just got log in which I did then nowt ,
Headsy Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 came up second time, strange nobody bid on them ,
Modernsoulsucks Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Sorry. Three copies of re-issue. No bids at all. I reckon your estimation may be a bit out. This is not a go at you but this is second time today when sales price are quoted for re-issues with what to me appears no grounding in reality. I assume it's JM bootleg guide that lists "value". I use that term loosely. ROD

Johnny The Shepperds on Mirwood were licenced in....have a read of the excellent sleevenotes on the two Ace CD's . I've always assumed it's the same ex Doo Wop group ?

Pete S Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Chalfontes reissue should be about £8 I reckon. I've just put loads of reissues on Ebay at 4.99 each - I bet I only sell about 3 for more than 4.99. Also 30 or so UK 60's originals, 4.99 each, loads of things that are booked at 10 to 30 quid - again, won't sell for much more than the start price.

ROD none taken mate, personally I dont think £10 for a legit re-issue is unreasonable these days ,what do you think it is worth ?not to be pedantic, but its only a guestimate of £10-20, maybe I should have said anywhere form £5 upwards or not even offered a comment on the price
Modernsoulsucks Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Dave, ta for that. What can one say really. There's no rhyme or reason to any of this valuation lark that I can see. ROD
Modernsoulsucks Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 Headsy I've no idea. To me nothing cos I collect originals. To the Ebay browsers below £5.99 cos nobody bid. To the buyers looking at John's site below £20 cos it's still there. How you arrive at an actual value from that info I haven't the foggiest. I would say that just because an original of Chalfontes IMO is £30-40 say, it doesn't follow that there's a demand for the re-issue to give it any value other than the 85p or whatever it originally sold for. As for current 45s like Grapevine whilst I accept the argument about limited runs and costs I don't know enough about licencing and pressing up a 45 to know whether £10 is reasonable. I do know that I prefer to spend that money on USA originals and hang on for a cheaper deal when buying that stuff. Are Kent 45s same price as Grapevine? All in all bit of a tendency to over-inflate and maybe us buyers are perhaps not getting as good a deal as we should. ROD
45cellar Posted October 4, 2006 Posted October 4, 2006 (edited) Hi At the end of the day, whatever The Chalfontes is worth, It's a brilliant record. Always been, and always will be, one of my favourites. Edited October 4, 2006 by 45cellar
