Frankie Crocker Posted March 28, 2016 Posted March 28, 2016 What's the story on this? I was unaware of it until a recent eBay auction. I won the copy I bid on but at a higher price than expected. A check of the bids revealed only Private Bidders had competed for it. Just checked on Popsike and the seller has auctioned over 80 in the first few pages, 10 or so stamped for DJ purposes. I am bidding on the one currently on eBay but again only Private Bidders appear which is unusual for the trivial sums involved. Popsike timed me out before I could add up all the records sold by this Las Vegas seller but it was around 84 of the first 120 on the first five pages. Any info on this record and the sales MO would be appreciated.
The Yank Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 According to Keith Rylatt's "Groovesville U.S.A", the label was owned by Tony Ewing. I have 2 singles on Chex (#1007 and #1010) both written by a W. Ewing that use the same stamper with "D. J. Copies Not For Sale" in the same spot as the Poptone release. If you check on Collector's Frenzy, quite a few copies have shown up over the years. 1
Kris Holmes Posted March 29, 2016 Posted March 29, 2016 when you have your auction set to a private listing everyone's details show as private when you check auction bids, it's just a setting some sellers use. anyways, Joe got pretty much all the remaining deadstock of this 45 years ago, he must have had at least a hundred plus copies. great 45 & if you want a copy you're pretty much gonna have to get it from his unplayed stock. i don't know why all his auctions are private listings. 1
Frankie Crocker Posted April 20, 2016 Author Posted April 20, 2016 Recently watched 'another' copy 'finish' at $49. Just been notified 'another' copy is up for auction with bids starting at 99 cents. A couple of weeks ago, a copy 'finished' at $49. When I check bids on copies of this title, they are all 'Private' so information is witheld. It looks like there are common 'bidding' patterns for this decent track but I remain baffled... Any further insight would be appreciated.
Mark B Posted April 24, 2016 Posted April 24, 2016 isnt this on two different colours for the label yellow and pink
