"Call Me / What Did He Say"
     Condition: M-
(M|M-|M) Who would have thought that this Tony Hatch tune (covered the following year by Chris Montez) would make such a dynamite Northern Soul stomper? Apparently, a lot of folks, since it ranks at #312 on Kev Roberts' list of the 500 greatest Northern Soul 45s. The B side isn't too shabby, either! This is a new, unplayed copy of the rare stock release for this single. It comes in a crisp ABC-Pmt. factory sleeve and with a mailing package from the company sent to Louise Neal. It's hard to find any fault with this copy — it has Mint labels and pristine audio... I've graded the vinyl Near Mint to reflect faint storage wear.
MB: $350 High Bid: $350 (1 bid) | Auction ends 7PM EST Wed., Mar. 30.

Newports, Kent 380, 1962.
"Dixie Women / The Wonder Of Love"
     Condition: M-
(M-|M-(sw)|M-) This rare 1962 single has two fine sides, but it's "Dixie Women" that most Northern Soul collectors crave. "The Wonder" is an uptempo dancer that will appeal more to fans of Girl Group rock. This copy has light ringwear, especially noticeable on the "Dixie" side (see photos), lowering the label grade to Near Mint. The vinyl looks almost untouched but has a medium storage warp that has no impact on playback, which also grades Near Mint.
MB: $250 High Bid: $275 (1 bid) | Auction ends 7PM EST Tue., Mar. 29.

Jacki Ross, Sar 129 (promo), 1962.
     "Hard Times / Hold Me"
     Condition: M-
(M-|M-|M-) Now, here's a rare Soul 45 that doesn't turn up very often: "Hard Times" is a dynamite early Soul dancer in the "Popcorn" soul style... a clear winner. (By the way, on most later releases, the artist spells her first name "Jackie.") This new, unplayed promo copy has nearly perfect labels, except that the "Hard Times" side has a small faint stain (see photo). The vinyl has some faint signs of storage wear, also grading Near Mint. The audio is almost perfect, but I heard faint surface noise near the beginning, so the audio gets a Near Mint grade.
     MB: $300
