I think it's a nasty, horrible mess.

Frankie Crocker Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 A stunning tune. Not one for Northern Novices. Like a fine wine, one to be contemplated then savoured. Real gritty records of this rarity are few and far between. Sets the floor alight on the rare occasions it's spun in public. Looks as though it will fetch a tidy sum. 3

I will perhaps concede that it's a great Northern record. In reality, it has very little to do with soul music - unless of course you're a Soul Novice. 2
Frankie Crocker Posted March 20, 2016 Posted March 20, 2016 (edited) Soul music has to be soulful, otherwise it is just Black Music. If it is soulful, it's probably got that special something that someone, somewhere will like. The Parliaments is heavily Doo Wop influenced RnB but brilliant because of this. To the Northern Novice unaccustomed to an immense range of quirky tunes, the record may appear unfinished. Whatever the story, it's a great dancer, a treat to listen to and a fine contrast to the up-tempo Motown-like tracks that hooked us when we were starting out. I probably would have danced to it back in the day - with some decent marching powder. Does absolutely nothing for me today but taste is just like opinion - we're all right! 2

Where usually mate we're in furious agreement this time, quite frankly sir; you are wrong. 'Smash the pub up' agro northern stomper of the highest calibre (you heard the new sub genre term here first )
Steve L Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 One of the iconic records of recent times...... great memories of the best venues on the scene over the last 10 years or so for me 1
Chalky Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I can't think of another record in recent times that caused the interest this record did whilst it was covered up by Butch. It was one of those records that made travelling worthwhile. 1
Mick Boyle Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Top draw - Worth double what ever it goes for 1

Ted Massey Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Mighty lovers sounded mighty fine in the Redemption 1

Douglaschip Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 Agree with most of those above: Great tune and sounds fantastic out on a loud sound system - propper banging Northern - what not to like!!
Kev Cane Posted March 21, 2016 Posted March 21, 2016 I love male group records and this is up there with the best of em, not saying The Mello Souls ever ran out of legs or ever will, but this came along albeit covered as The Masqueraders at just the right time Kev

Ted Massey Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 (edited) 3 of the best northern records ever have got incredible beginings no fading in for theses Mello Souls Parliaments Damon Fox Edited March 22, 2016 by Ted Massey 1
Coops Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 great northern track but somewhat lacking in the 'soul' (emotional content) department........... just saying x 1
Soulandy Posted March 22, 2016 Posted March 22, 2016 Sounded alright at stoke at 5.30am a few years ago
Chalky Posted March 23, 2016 Posted March 23, 2016 Plenty if soul in it IMO lyrically. Far more than many records adopted by this scene. 1

Frankie Crocker Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 So, no one having a nibble? Come on snipers - whet our appetites a little. Could be interesting if several big-hitters start scrapping it out in the last 10 seconds...
Soulandy Posted March 24, 2016 Posted March 24, 2016 Well that was exciting. Two bids in the last two seconds, $5324.55
Frankie Crocker Posted March 25, 2016 Posted March 25, 2016 Four bidders so three disappointed collectors out there. Thought it would fetch more.

Tony Smith Posted March 31, 2016 Posted March 31, 2016 Only 10 Derek? Good to see you last week my friend
