It was £300 or so when there was a few copies about.  I remember Andy Dyson getting a few and they went straight away.  If he has had any since it is the odd copy only, quite scarce now.

 

$900 madness I had a few copies sold them all for about £250 each

been on ebay about a dozen times in the last 10 yrs... it seems looking at popsike tho between 2007 and 2009 the same guy sold a few copies... probably had some albeit small stock of it.. all promos.. might be where some uk/euro guys got theirs from thru private deals ... not been many since tho  but as stated same guy listed 2 very recently..doesnt say anything about not been paid for tho

Is it the same group, I didnt think it was, the Mir a Don/Crazy Cajun group...

It may have been recorded earlier (?), but wasnt released until the late 7ts....

Always wondered why this didn't make their Lp, was it recorded before that came out? 

Actually 'colour me soul' says something like 1978 if I remember right, but I always thought the tracks on that lp were allot earlier....

First off apologies to the starter of the thread & feel free to ask the mods to move this post???

But I do think this has some relevance? Am I the only one who doesn't like this?When I hear it out it rams the floor & everyone round me seems to be drooling over it & I just think it's bland at best..........I could be a lot harsher but it's Sunday???:hatsoff2:

This is my problem with my post on the thread it could possibly side track the original posters question(sorry)........but as we're here :D

You want to see the looks when I make my less then complementary comments about it when it come on at a "do",you'd have thought I'd fed Bambi to the big bad wolf :lol:

I think it been a radio records would improve it............a bit of static & loss of wave length would be a great improvement :wicked:

Hi Martyn. Each to his own. Great tune whether on the dancefloor or in the living room. Not all soul records are equally great so there's a time and place for listening to whatever suits. When I was at Tufnell Park over a year back at the Keb Darge charity do, it got me onto the floor pretty quickly. After that it went onto the wants list. I bid very high on the copy in Japan but was narrowly beaten: the auction winner failed to pay and was sent notification that the record was up for sale again. By now though, I'd blown the dosh on a People's Choice on Palmer plus a few other items... still feel pretty sick about this...

As we all know likes & dislikes are the the lifeblood of the scene & drives the next new sound but so far this is a tune I find I'm in such a minority (obviously everyone's wrong & I'm right :D).I was just wondering if I could find some others in my gang but it looks like I'm Billy No Mates............again :g:

I was with Tony Hatfield when he bought his at York Soul Club all-dayer a few years ago & he paid what I thought was way over the top for it,looks a bargain now?

Just looked at the Lp mentions 'Few Feet from the Gutter' in the sleeve notes, so thats definitive.  The Ascots from Texas are: Talmadge Armstrong, A.C Gillroy, and James 'Kelly' Duhon. With Arrangement / lyrics from Ken Johnson, production from Huey P. Maeux.

Lp released in 78, I personally recon these tracks could have been in the 'can' for some time, they deffo sound earlier to me.

Phewww I was pretty certain these were different groups.

The MBS Ascots is a Miradon production, so the same group as on Miradon, I also assume the Ascots on J&S - What Love Can Do - are the same group as as on Mir a Don, as they are NYC based.

For information, James Kelly Duhon - Graveyard Creep/Talmadge Armstrong - Color Me Soul, both from the Crazy Cajun LP, came out on Jetstream also, one on one side, one on the the t'other of the same 45.

Soul Discography, a follow on from R&B Indies has the label as Cincinnati, Ohio but there is nothing in R&B Indies apart from Solid Soul in brackets under the label name and nothing on the Ohio Soul Recordings site.  MBS definitely New York though.

A few feet from the gutter is a record I have had for a very long time, I regard it as a £300 record, when playing it out last year I was tempted by an offer of £600 but did not sell, so in todays crazy market $900 may be right.

slightly different cut on Graveyard Creep though Russ, when I eventually got the 45, I noticed a distinct lack of banshee whaling, as apposed to the LP cut... you need the Banshee in full effect I think :-))

I was pretty lucky with mine too mate, had it for years & paid £200....FAB record tho innit...

Theory - tax avoidance/reclaim LP. Possibly had to remove FFFTG for royalty purposes.?

Best theory Ive heard Kev.. re royalty purposes, assume you mean to the writers not publishers?

FFFTG credits Ken Johnson / Talmadge Armstrong as writers, and the Lp only has one writing credit for 'The Graveyard Creep' that song being the only other track that gained a 45 release... there are no writing credits on any of the other songs on that Lp...

the plot thickens... :-))

If you read the reverse of the Color Me Soul lp full credits are given, lyrics, producer etc.....

Credits are given on the American Playboy release.  Given that credits are given on the Lp and the 45 that would dispel the royalties theory.  Whether any paid or not is another matter.

Whether anything was dodgy or not with his artist and labels, Huey certainly led a dodgy life away from music......

In 1996, a police raid of his office turned up thousands of Polaroids and videos of girls, mostly underage, in sexual situations. Meaux plead guilty to two counts of sexual assault of a child, a drug possession charge, a child pornography charge and another for jumping bail and briefly fleeing to JuárezMexico. He was sentenced to 15 years in prison and was released in 2007

I was talking of the omission of FFFTG.Maybe thats why it was not included,not credits in general.

As you know,tax could be claimed back on studio time.

A possiblity that this LP could have been released to claim back tax.?
