Guest Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 I know there's a ''re-issue'' with Sandra Wright on the flip but is the below first image also a re-issue? with the second image being original? the difference being the song title format and the little 's' underneath? . I have seen the first image on Discogs as a re-issue but also on Ebay more priced as an original. I have read what I can but still am not sure - any help appreciated.
billb Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 looks good to me? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VPg77gQJzjU great tune but look at the comment below this youtube clip. John Gary Williams 5 months ago I wrote this song in the early seventies and I had hope that things would have changed by now but I was wrong and it saddens me, it really brakes my heart, still I see hope. 2
Sjclement Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 One styrene the other vinyl?different pressing plants?
Guest Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 I bought the first one as a re-issue for a tenner and it's vinyl and brand new ..... and confirmed from the seller it was a re-issue - so I am confused lol Flip side is as per original
billb Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 still looks good to me, look on ebay and you tube, both formats are on there, I think you've done well?
Guest Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 Hopefully - but someone has put it up (the first image) on Discogs under their generic format as a 2012 re-issue with one for sale @ £15 (like I bought mine for a tenner) whereas there are others listed as original (the second image shown) with prices from £40 t0 £100 plus - all of which makes me think the first is a re-issue - mine is too new for a 1974 release - and that some of the ebay sellers might have it wrong albeit genuinely. This is how I see it, was just looking to see if anyone knew. Mark
Tlscapital Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 First/top copy has the label of the styrene but if it's on vinyl, then it's a "re-issue" or worse...
Supercorsa Posted January 24, 2016 Posted January 24, 2016 (edited) I have a demo copy with the 'S', so I am assuming it's just different pressing plants. Having a little look around on the net, I discovered that Light In The Attic did a Stax box set, containing a reissue of this, but not in a demo format.https://lightintheattic.net/releases/701-never-to-be-forgotten-the-flip-side-of-stax-1968-1974 Also on Discogs it refers to some markings in the runouts. As follows: Matrix / Runout (A side / Plug side): STSX-0787-1 SS-01435 -L.NIX- Matrix / Runout (B side): STSX-0788-1 SS-01436 -L.NIX- My runout shows as above with just the following difference, STSX-0787-13 (instead of STSX-0787-1), but the first picture in this topic taken from an Ebay listing, quite clearly shows STSX-0787-8. So like I've stated, I would go down the road of different pressing plants. Plus I am certain I purchased my copy before 2012. Edited January 24, 2016 by Supercorsa update on reissue 1
Guest Gogs Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 Mine is a white demo. and the wording is laid out different, dead wax reads from 9 o,clock STXS 0788-1, 7o'clock s5-01436 space op, 5:30 -LNIX-
Garethx Posted January 25, 2016 Posted January 25, 2016 The first image is of a legit styrene copy, pressed at Columbia's Pittman NJ plant. The second scan is of a copy pressed at Plastic Products in Memphis. Both original label layouts. The "S" on these Columbia pressings of the record was a price code (responding to a recommended price). You'll also see this on Philly Int. records and other Columbia-pressed labels. Hope this helps. 3
Guest Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Thanks for all the info - to close this out I had a good close look at the marks in the runout grooves of my copy and in a super feint scribe is LITA 085D10-A (and only on the flip) - its really tough to see it (on the A side there is a similarly feint R-25373) (no other runout markings on either side)- so seems clear this is the Light In The Attic re-issue (thanks to Supercorsa for that info) even if it's nearly identical to the first image posted which is original - the only and marginal difference seems to be the space between the wording on the curve at the bottom of the label and the horizontal wording. It also came with a nice new Stax card sleeve that seems typical of box sets and as I said is too new and clean to be original - it feels and looks new. Curiosity satisfied and now I can move on and can go get an original
billb Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Looks real, good on the dealer for being honest. 1
Ncfc Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 I have never bothered with 45, the seam split lp has done me for near 30 years.Great singer! 1
Garethx Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 The reissue above is vinyl. The original Columbia-pressed copies are styrene. 1
