Long shot this one? Looking for any infomation to whereabouts of Derek Wright?? Used to d.j. at the Harrison's Hoist All-nighters in Earby and the Sunday evening soul sessions at Thornton Manor late 60's early 70's. Also used to visit the Twisted Wheel in Manchester. Any info would be appreciated?

Many thanks,

In Anticipation,

Ian

Hello Ian, I have asked loads of people from the past if they knew his whereabouts, but he seems to have disappeared. I knew him from the time when he did the soul nights at Thornton Manor in the early seventies. I remember he drove a Morgan and had a trailer with the PA in. Great lad, both John Bolland and him were a bit older than me and my mates, so were our heroes and mentors. I will ask some of the people on Facebook from back in the day and let you know if I get any leads.

Best regards, Phil.

Cheers Phil.

Doing this as a favour for Fran O'Brien. Had a day with him yesterday selling a few of his records and talking about the past, as you do when you get old (and senile). Never went to Harrison's Hoist but did go to the Manor on Friday nights and Sunday. Fran said the Manor used to be a very big mod club in the mid-sixties. Have looked for Derek on facebook but without success. Nearly found his whereabouts years ago when I met up with his sister who lived in Salterforth. Asked her if he still had his records and she thought they were up in his loft. Appreciate your help in the search.

Best,

Ian

  • Hi Julian
  • Doing this as a favour for Fran O'Brien who I meet up and try selling his records quite regularly. I've just noticed I have spelt his name wrong should be Deryck. Used to see his sister who lived in Salterforth and she did mention that he was still around the area, with his records in the loft. Fran said he went to the Wheel and d.j'd at Harrison's and Thornton Manor.

Trouble is Ian people change and some don't want to be "found" as I have discovered. I was interested in contacting John Bolland who was a friend of Franny's back in the day. He wasn't interested, but I bumped into him in Skipton with his wife and he was polite and friendly and we spoke of the old days for a few minutes. I invited him to call into my shop anytime for a brew and a chat, but he has never taken me up on the offer.

Another lad that I was best friends with when we were kids also refused to get in touch when I discovered that I was working with his cousin many years later.

Maybe it's just that nobody can stand me.

Yes Phil,

John lives across the road from Fran, soon to live next door. Met him many years ago in town (Skipton) and had a chat. Doesn't go back as far as Fran and the late Les Cockel  but must admit he first introduced me to the music in 68/69. Like you say people may not wish to remember "the good old days".
